27/03/2016 – Sugarbag club ride summary

Overall a good ride with a good turnout and thankfully the rain holding off until the end of the ride.

Had a few people conquer their fears and succeed getting over a few of the hairier obstacles on the trails, which were then accompanied with the mandatory whooping and high fives afterwards. Unfortunately there were a couple of whoopsie daisies and I hope those riders pulled up OK the next day.

Interesting events:

  • I met a friendly fellow fatbiker wearing clipless sandals (I thought they were a myth).
  • I accidentally did the tricky stuff because I made the mistake of following Toby and Alf.
  • Paul wash his bike from from the back of his van – we think it was either black magic or he was actually dosing his bike in fuel.
  • Susie’s “waahoo’s” actually echo of the trees for a whole 90 seconds and intimidate nearby birds.
  • Andrew’s experiment of trying to cure a big night by bike riding didn’t work as well as he hoped.

See you next week everyone!

Saturday’s Beginner ride on the 24/02/2016 had 14 riders take off from Ewan Maddock car park and within minutes one rider was sure that they had seen a platypus! We continued riding around the dam taking in the sights and stopping for the odd photo. Most ladies were well and trully ready for a coffee and a snack once we arrived at Buck’s Bakery in Landsborugh. After refreshments, a highlight was definitely going through Dalarcha N.P. and riding through the old tunnel to Kenny’s at Mooloolah. It was at this point, some of the ladies had to dig deep. The SAG wagon was called for one lady who made a promised to herself to get on her bike more often . It was the first time her legs had peddled in a very long time. So she did exceptionally well getting that far. With only a few kilometres to go, one bike sadly didn’t make it. Our support mechanic, Paul Hume tried to fix it but surprisingly the lady was quite adamant to leave it in that twisted state as she was sure when her husband saw it, he would buy her a new one! After all riders were safely back, connections were made and interest was high in Go G.I.R.L. Many joining our face book group, eagerly awaiting news on where our next adventure will be!

Go G.I.R.L Women’s week 2016 events

Hello Bushrangers,

Exciting news!!! Our incredible Women’s Advocacy officer Susie has organised a range of events for Women’s week 2015 starting March 7th. On the Tuesday we have on offer coaching sessions with some pretty incredible female riders one being Janine Jungfels. Bushranger ladies who are lucky enough to score a spot in the coaching sessions will get a discount rate of $15 rather than $30 for non-members. Please fill in the expression of interest form prior to February 29th even if your not coming to the coaching so we know rough numbers for each of the events as there are a range over the week most being free. All participants do have to be signed up with MTBA insurance be a member of our club, another club or on the free 2 month trail. We also recommend women riders to join Susie’s Facebook group .

We encourage all Bushrangers members male & female to also let other female riders know about these Women’s week events as these are all inclusive and a great way to meet other riders and have some fun on two wheels! Same as all our rides please arrive 15 minutes prior to listed start time. If coaching proves to be popular we will aim to put more sessions for all riders in the future.
