CANCELLED – Sugarbag Ride (Sunday 19th June)

CANCELLED – Sugarbag Ride (Sunday 19th June)
Predicted rain for Sunday 19th June

We’ve been checking many different sources of weather information and it is looking like it will be pretty wet and possibly dangerous to be out and about this Sunday.

Even a pavement ride will be uncomfortable and we rather not have people out and about in their cars so we’re going to call it a bike maintenance day, or a roller day, or catch up on your favourite MTB videos day.

It’s not often we outright cancel a ride without an alternative but with these predicted severe weather events we rather err on the side of caution.

Stay safe and lets hope for clear skies next week for the Parklands Dash and Wooroi ride.

Click to register

Click to register to be a rider or a volunteer

OK let’s try this again.

We are going to do the Dash on the 25th of June but we’ve decided to go with the full Alley cat style ride so read the updated format change below.

Rider (and volunteer) registration and further information is available through the following link.

Updated Race Format

OK, here is the NEW race format.

  • Register online and on the day go to the registration desk and draw your playing card.
  • During the ride briefing everyone will get a map with the checkpoints on it. You must get to each checkpoint and get your card stamped. Then bring your completed card back to the registration tent.
  • You can get to the checkpoints whichever way you like and in any order you like (but you must stick to trails and fire roads). As a nod to the original Alley Cat bike messengers you will have a delivery to make during the race.
  • Joker advantage – If you draw the Joker you will have an advantage to do with what you will. The holder of the Joker will be given the checkpoints earlier and be given a head start.

Just leave any questions in the comments and RSVP to [email protected].

Plantation Closure Due to Extreme Weather Event

Please note that the Beerburrum forestry areas will be closed for public access this weekend due to a possible extreme weather event. HQ Plantations have kindly asked for us to respect the closure:

Please be aware we have closed public access to forest plantations due to expected extreme heavy rainfall events being forecast for the south east Queensland over the next few days. The affected plantation areas include the Beerburrum,  Fraser Coast, Elliott River, Mary Valley, Jimna, Yarraman, Pechey-Esk and Passchendaele areas.

The plantations will be closed to all access unless specifically approved over the weekend 4 and 5 June 2016.

Due to the localised and heavy nature of rainfall events many of the plantation roads and tracks may be subject to flooding and may be damaged creating a serious risk to people attempting to use them. The potential for rapid rises of streams and waterways from heavy rainfall in the plantation areas is high increasing the risk to life and property.

HQPlantations  is appealing to the public to respect this closure so that safe and responsible access to the plantations can be restored to the public as soon as possible.

For further information and enquiries please visit the HQ Plantations Website.

The Beerburrum (Glasshouse Mountains) plantation remains closed for further assessment:

Please note that the Beerburrum Plantation (which includes Glasshouse Mountains, Bribie Island and Bribie Logging Area) remains closed today and tomorrow (Monday 6 June and Tuesday 7 June) to allow a full assessment of the impacts of the weather to be undertaken particularly with regard to public safety, with an update on public access expected on Wednesday.

“Club Only” Members Update – (NERD TALK ALERT)

“Club Only” Members Update – (NERD TALK ALERT)

Hi Folks,

A few people have been asking about “club only” membership (and how come they don’t get the awesome SMS/Email notifications). So I thought I’d provide an update.

What is a club only membership?

Club Only membership is available to those who already hold membership through another club that insures them for mountain biking activities. These clubs are typically affiliated with Mountain Biking Australia (MTBA) and Cycling Australia (CA).

However at the moment it’s an administratively intensive task of providing your details to us via email and then organising a bank transfer/direct debit through your bank, depositing it directly into our account, or giving money to a committee member who then deposits it on your behalf. Then we need to verify your details, check that the deposit went through, and then manually update the list.

That sounds arduous and fraught with error!

Indeed it does! But I have been madly tapping away on multiple keyboards and screens at the same time (while wailing on a guitar) trying to revamp the notification code to include another list for ‘club only’ members (I also accidentally sent out a duplicate notification, sorry about that!).

This list will be populated auto-magically by using a form on the website so you can simply fill out the form, submit payment, and then voilà – you are on the membership list.

So what do I do now?

For those who have already paid I will be in contact shortly to confirm your contact details for inclusion on the new list. For those who would like to become a ‘club only’ member – you can either contact us now or wait until we get the form finished.

Thank you to everyone for being so patient while I get this sorted.
