Congrats to retired secretary Michael
Michael "helping" Toby at Mapleton

A big congratulations to Michael Johns for winning a Nicklin community award for service to mountain biking on the Sunshine coast. Michael has (and continues to) contributed greatly to our club development in a variety of fields, though you may know him best for his role as secretary. Thanks for your work MJ! There wouldn’t be a club without your efforts.

2018 Outdoors Queensland Award Finalist

2018 Outdoors Queensland Award Finalist

Hey folks!

Trophy is a tooth from a giant glass chain-ring

The work we all did on the Parklands MTB Trails Project last year has been recognised in the 2018 Outdoor Queensland Awards.

The Outdoors Queensland Awards (formerly known as the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Awards) recognise and reward excellence in the outdoors community. The Awards celebrate individuals, organisations, programs, events and activities that have been successful in significantly improving outcomes for participants, clients and communities.

The winners are announced in Brisbane on the 26/10/2018 and we are up against some very stiff and well deserving competition in our category.

Once again another big thanks to all our volunteers and Ranger Eugene from QPWS who helped build the new trails and skills park and the Sunshine Coast Council and Department of Sport and Recreation for the grants to make it all happen.

The 2018 MTBA QLD Club Volunteer of the Year Award goes to…….. Ben Johns!

The 2018 MTBA QLD Club Volunteer of the Year Award goes to…….. Ben Johns!
Put your racing legs on!

So shiny!

So yeah, our President just won the QLD Club Volunteer Award in the 2018 MTBA Achievement Awards!

No idea why really. Why award someone who took over a club that was on the ropes and then grew it by 300% in 3 years to be the biggest MTB club on the coast. Who then spent all of his free time upgrading and modernising the club’s look and administration systems so he could spend more time on trails, grants, woman’s advocacy, training, rookie rides and trying to kickstart the club’s racing pedigree while also dealing with the conflicts and earning the trust and strengthening the relationships with the local riders, community and landowners. Maybe no one else was nominated?

But seriously Ben – good work mate! You totally deserve this reward and I’m sure lot of others think so too. I remember falling off my chair when you told me you had volunteered for President 3 years ago and I thought you had bitten off way too much. You absolutely proved me wrong!
