About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Go G.I.R.L. (Get Into Riding Ladies) is a Bushranger MTB Club initiative that started after the club was asked to help the Caloundra Council celebrate Women’s Week way back in 2016.  We planned an exciting week of events showcasing the brilliant sport of mountain biking and encourage ladies to try something new.

Today, our mission is to encourage more women to ride mountain bikes in a fun, safe and encouraging environment. We offer monthly social rides to various destinations to suit all abilities, with like-minded women.

WHAT TO EXPECT? The rides are suitable for beginners and intermediates and for approximately 1.5 hours and will be on a mixture of single-track trails and fire roads. The pace is set to suit everyone.

WHAT DO YOU NEED? A functioning mountain bike, helmet, water, snack, money for a coffee after and a sense of adventure. We recommend an Aus Cycling membership for insurance cover.

REMEMBER, you don’t have to have all the gear, you don’t have to be the quickest, Go G.I.R.L’s is all about just getting out their on your bike and enjoying it.

Our new Women’s Advocate is Jo Prothero, who some of you may have already met.  She picks up the baton from Susie Hume’s great work to get the group where it is today.

ABOUT JO
Jo moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2020, having only learnt to ride in her 40’s during her time working at Falls Creek Alpine Resort, in North East Victoria. You will find her regularly riding at Sugar Bag & Tewantin and is familiarising herself with our home trails at Parklands. She is a proud e-bike rider which helps her ride for longer and more often.

Her true passion is to see more women allowing time for themselves to ride, enjoying being outdoors and making new friends.

SOCIAL RIDE DATES, TIMES & LOCATIONS:

Sat, 24th Feb – Wooroi, Tewantin
Sat, 23rd Mar – Parklands, Radar Hill Road
Sat, 27th Apr – Victory Heights, Gympie

We ride off at 7.30am, so it is best to arrive 10-15 minutes prior. We also have a coffee, cake and chat somewhere nearby post riding.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

Hope to see you on the trails!
