About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Wondai Dirty Weekend

Wondai Dirty weekend…. fire festival. Friday afternoon Wondai showgrounds glowed with fire pits and anticipation of two days of country hospitality, sweet tracks, perfect riding weather and guarantee of bigger smiles. Frost greeted the Saturday arrivals all robed up for the roll South along the rail trail. Punching into the wind, we arrived at Wooroolin historic rail station greeted by Jason from the South Burnett Mountain Bike Club who then guided the peloton to Gordonbrook dam via the relaxing wide open rds. Joined by SBMTBC, CORCA and Bushrangers amalgamated to ride a fantastic mix of trail features including dual stage jumps, rock gardens, XC loop and drifty berms. Really enjoyable tracks and credit to the club for putting all the work in. Petre B’s Carbon frame after 9 trillion oscillations had a catastrophic failure. Regrouping for a quick bite to eat at the picnic grounds the time trial groups literally sailed back to wondai (some via the Tingoora...

Gympie ride report 19/2/2023

Ride report: Gympie 19/2/2023. In search of a gold bearing reef a mob of claim jumping Bushrangers met at the Victory Heights MTB trailhead. Clear intentions to ride every winding alluvial auriferous track and potentially clear the multitude of new double jumps…..or…. at least visualize it. Huge effort and accolades to the local trail wizards https://www.facebook.com/VictoryHeightsMtbTrails/ wonderful facility compressing more tracks into a small area for the wider community to enjoy. Ride leaders confirmed, the team split faster than a mine shaft explosion. Super human “Peter B“ led out the crazy fast paced group setting the wheels in motion around every curve and nugget-laden overburden jump. Tyre weighting is critical in keeping the front from stepping out and overshooting the 10 zillion tight corners on the shaly smooth tracks. Despite cries of mutiny from one younger rider due to the sustained exorbitant speed everyone warmed up and came out Ore enriched doing 27km and 470m no mean feat for Gympie!!. Eureka !!! The remaining mining crew...

2022 XMAS PARTY RIDE

Ride Report 4/12/2022  CHRISTMAS PARTY RIDE   The Bushrangers Christmas social club ride garnered a decent gathering filling the Ewan Maddock Dam carpark. Some riders summoned their festive spirit and adorned themselves with subtle hints of Christmas. 2 ride options were on offer with ride leaders Toby and Chipper guiding their charges. Chipper’s ride promised plenty of km’s and elevation with the first climb ascending toward the heavens via the formidable Brandenberg Rd …. thank goodness summer took a day off and the group embraced the cool breeze at the top. Those with engines managed to engage in conversation all the way up and the pedal pushing powerhouses were probably wishing they could silence them. Once the lactic burn abated, it was off to McCarthy Shute via closed slipped roads, Mary Cairncross Reserve and the stunning Glasshouse Mountains vista complete with a soaring eagle. So far the ride had been footpaths, tarmac and dirt roads so there was audible excitement and frothing aplenty when...

Mapleton Sept 2022

Ride Report Mapleton Sept 2022   A magic spring day with 35 riders gathering at the Lillyponds park in Mapleton with blue skies and cool temperatures……Can’t quite understand why people would want to ride up steep hills in the dirt, dodge mudpuddles, sweat, be impaled by sticks, ride deep ruts, eat mud and avoid large rocks at speeds beyond self-preservation!!!.. well let me tell you brothers and sisters there was no bludging on the blind side here today… This is serious Stuff. The masses split into equal numbers with a common goal to sit upon the sacred rocks of Oakey creek lookout. Toby’s team hit the single tracks early showing new riders the rainforest maze of Mapleton followed by open fire trails leading out to the endless views over Gheerulla and Mary valley. Team 2 headed directly downhill in a jump frenzy to Kureelpa falls viewing the rocky chasm then muscled their way back to the day use area. Hitting the super fun and...

Mapleton Delicia rd ride Report

Ride Reports Mapleton Delicia rd  22/5/2022   Apparently, it has been the wettest in 32 years from January to May. Amazingly we got lucky again!  No rain to start with.   20 riders set off in cloudy conditions west along Delicia rd in search of heights, happiness and the sun…???   Steep rainforest descent to the start of Gheerulla falls turn off for a quick regroup before a sole searching ascent of the DH track road climb. Once back on top of the world low cloud made for cool pedaling past lifestyle retreats with fancy property names and folk-art features, surely they were unaware of the Bushranger presence stealing the wonder of the ambience. End of the road made for a new adventure loop instigated by JWS following the fire track to a temporary waterfall and creek crossing narrow but deep enough to swallow a wheel or two. Grippy rocky climbing tracks, wilderness bushland and some walking, we made it to a foggy lookout where the sun...

Eumundi Cooroy ride report

Bushrangers Club ride report 15/5/2022   The wet weather plan was to find a road less travelled on some local scenic country roads, right on our doorstep. Setting off on a steamy May Sunday from Eumundi the town was sleepy quiet.  Bushrangers headed for the high country up Eumundi Range rd stopping to see the other side of Mt Eerwah (we normally see it from the Point Glorious side) Rolling into Cooroy checking out pastel green architecture of the eras 60’s to current, everyone stills mows in thongs!! West to “Cooroy Belli creek” rd set the green scene riding up gradual inclines into the rising mist, stopping at “Old Ceylon hill” road the sun threatened to break through. Only sign of life was one man walking his dog. More gradual climbs to Lawnville rd  along the narrow ridges, the team  rolled  a fast pace down a 3km winding black top. Caution to the wind wet bitumen and downhill tyres !!! what could go wrong!!!! Nothing...

Yandina, Cooloolabin, Pt Glorious 24.3.2022

Yandina, Cooloolabin, Pt Glorious 24.3.2022 Patchy heavy showers (blue pixels of riders doom) on the radar did not deter an eager 16 riders gathering at Yandina Station, with a tyre delamination preventing a big gun from starting, nobody had a spare tyre!!. Warming up through the back blocks before hitting the sole searching “Bottle and Glass” rd climb, an old Cobb & Co dry weather route from the 1858. We were keeping the dream alive. Patches of blue sky and cool breeze lifted most up to the Cooloolabin hall where we picked up the 2nd group of riders. Now totalling 23, continuing through the Single track to the dam wall then around the rugged puddle infested back loop of the dam exiting along Blackall rd. Nice track with plenty of variation up and down, a must do. Pt Glorious rd full of surprises encountering a massive black horse with rider holding an Australian flag in training for ANZAC day. Past the ½ way mark...

Mapleton to Point Glorious Plus 6/3/2022

Ride Report Mapleton Point Glorious Plus. 6.3.2022 Due to the massive amounts of rain in the last week our only option to get dirt under the tyres was the fail-safe Mapleton ridges and beyond. 22 riders with serious cabin fever prepared for a range of ride options suiting a diversity of riders. Group 1: Tour de Mapleton rookie/injured  group of 4 stayed on moderately level ground with a scenic tour of the town incorporating Lillyponds wood features out in the lake then along Mapleton forest drive down cedar creek rd past the day use area.  Followed by a history tour of Mapleton cemetery looking for Bushranger relatives but none to be found, only a few scattered spokes.. Mapleton falls looked spectacular with mountainous back drop and misting waterfall. 24 Km and 400+ meters of climbing. Great to have Katherine along for the ride on a sweet looking Kona Unit X bike. Groups: 2 & 3 headed for Cooloolabin dam rolling at mega speed down the...
