About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Chicks in the Sticks 2018

Fiona with the latest in hardcore MTB kit – a ribbon!

Our pink ladies did brighten up the forest with huge smiles and plenty of words of encouragement as record numbers of GoGIRLs participated in Chicks In The Sticks this year. And don’t our new jerseys look terrific. Thanks Michael. We love the design.

There were near perfect conditions on the day at Scribble Gums Conservation Park in Redlands. After the initial race was cancelled due to bad weather and subsequent rain being on the radar for what seemed like forever, the ladies knew despite their fitness taking a bit of a dive, that they were more than ready to hit the trails as you could feel the excitement in the air.

Sonja came 3rd in the Queen of the coop section!

Everyone is to be congratulated because you rode so well and looked so good out there on the trails. There were more than a few GoGIRL podium finishers too. We cheered Anka in first place, up there with Sonja in third for the Queens of the Coup section, what a machine is that girl. We had another first with Debbie winning the Have a Crack category. She was so excited when she yelled track right as she passed me.

We giggled and yelled loudly when Fiona and Louise won the best dressed with their inventive Crazy Chicken ladies costumes. They came an impressive second in the Soft Boiled Double Yokers. Everyone was really proud of our first timers too, Jenny T, Kara, Fi, Kerry and Jenny TB just to name a few.

Well done Nicci who came 4th in the huge Free Range category as well as everyone who rode just a bit better than last year and reached their own personal goal which for many was just to have a crack at their first race.

MTB Training Clinic – Enduro Skills – 10/11/2018

Hello folks, So we had a high level of interest in doing some more advanced level skill training like descending faster, jumping and fast berms etc - because everyone knows that's the sort of stuff that pulls the chicks/lads etc. We have procured the well-reviewed services of local elite level downhill rider and coach Jacob Reeves for 2 x 3-hour intensive clinics on Saturday the 10/11/2018. The morning clinic (8am) will be for intermediate riders who want to learn the advanced skills such as jumping and doing berms faster. The afternoon clinic (12.30pm) is for advanced riders who can already jump etc but want to get better at it. These  longer, intensive clinics are $50 and YOU MUST BE AN MTBA MEMBER for insurance purposes. More Trails – Less Emails!

So in a few months the 2019 AGM will be held and as always on that day all committee positions are open for any member to have a crack at. But this post is to let everyone know that Ben, Greg, Craig and myself are stepping down from the President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary roles and will not nominate for any committee positions next year. [caption id="attachment_6948" align="alignright" width="237"] Also good for Xmas cards this year![/caption] On a personal touchy-feely note this decision brings up confusing feelings of elation and sadness - like eating Neapolitan ice-cream blindfolded or finding a $20 note in your poop. Since Ben became President 4 years ago he has done an incredible job at rejuvenating the club and I've been supremely proud to stand beside him and the rest of the committee members on this journey. So the big question is, which fresh new faces will take the helm? Will they keep the club on it's current course,...

Hey folks! [caption id="attachment_6908" align="alignright" width="124"] Trophy is a tooth from a giant glass chain-ring[/caption] The work we all did on the Parklands MTB Trails Project last year has been recognised in the 2018 Outdoor Queensland Awards. The Outdoors Queensland Awards (formerly known as the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Awards) recognise and reward excellence in the outdoors community. The Awards celebrate individuals, organisations, programs, events and activities that have been successful in significantly improving outcomes for participants, clients and communities. The winners are announced in Brisbane on the 26/10/2018 and we are up against some very stiff and well deserving competition in our category. Once again another big thanks to all our volunteers and Ranger Eugene from QPWS who helped build the new trails and skills park and the Sunshine Coast Council and Department of Sport and Recreation for the grants to make it all happen....

Updated Trail Counts and Grants Update

Hi Folks, I've just checked the counters after a couple of months. The new trails at Parklands are attracting a sustained thousand rides a month and they seem to be holding up okay. You can view the stats on our Trail Care page. If you do notice issues with any trails within Parklands please be sure to send an email to info@bushrangers.org and we'll discuss it with QPWS. [caption id="attachment_6884" align="alignright" width="538"] A worn timber bridge that was made worse by Cyclone Debbie's down pour.[/caption] Also, we've submitted an application for round 7 of the Queensland Government's Get Playing - Places and Spaces grant, the Sunshine Coast Council have already approved us for a major community grant that will be the co-contribution for this grant. Working with QPWS we're seeking to fix up all the creek crossings throughout the Parklands Conversation park. Rock armouring will be the preferred method however bridges will be installed/upgraded where needed. Additionally many 'fall line' trails will be reworked...
