Charlie Moreland August 29 2021
Charlie Moreland — Mt Alan fire tower August 29/8/2021.
A dead calm overcast morning had the smoke lingering in the Mary Valley as Bushrangers came out of the coastal metropolis to gather at Charlie Moreland day use area on Sunday creek rd west of Kenilworth.
All dressed up and somewhere to go, 10 spots of rain did not deter the 22 trail warriors as they warmed up with a 400m climb and then some..
Sunday creek rd is the main gravel route through to Jimna reaching up to 750m above sea level, so even though the hills are enormous the temperature is cooler. Many fire trails to explore.
Riders not having experienced the magnitude of this area were in constant awe at the size of the trees, hills, and stunning scenery. Regrouping serval times to allow legs to regenerate before arriving at Summer falls provided a mid-ride break, photos and bike check…. Oh no I have run out of brake pads!!!!
Heading back towards Mt Alan into the dryer forest and fire roads several riders rolled back avoiding the climb to the fire tower, while the other crew burnt their remaining energy to the fire tower soaking in the view & some blue sky.
Psyched up for the wicked descent back to the cars there was some concern as to how Andrew would survive metal-on-metal brake pads 400m & 4 km descent…. We need not have worried there was no backing off with the Sam Hill foot out style cornering. One corner catching most out as several went wide enjoying the grassy verge.
Everyone grinning at the bottom not only from the down hill but from there achievement of completing another epic ride in this deep bushland area. Full loop covered 32Km and 1150m climbing. Nice riding Everyone😊
Back to Kenilworth Cheese factory for country Coffee & feed. Lots of open space for a big group of weary Bushrangers.
