Ride Report Mapleton Sept 2022
A magic spring day with 35 riders gathering at the Lillyponds park in Mapleton with blue skies and cool temperatures……Can’t quite understand why people would want to ride up steep hills in the dirt, dodge mudpuddles, sweat, be impaled by sticks, ride deep ruts, eat mud and avoid large rocks at speeds beyond self-preservation!!!.. well let me tell you brothers and sisters there was no bludging on the blind side here today… This is serious Stuff.
The masses split into equal numbers with a common goal to sit upon the sacred rocks of Oakey creek lookout. Toby’s team hit the single tracks early showing new riders the rainforest maze of Mapleton followed by open fire trails leading out to the endless views over Gheerulla and Mary valley.
Team 2 headed directly downhill in a jump frenzy to Kureelpa falls viewing the rocky chasm then muscled their way back to the day use area. Hitting the super fun and challenging single track out to meet the others on Que at the lookout.
34 riders arrived without incident soaking in the sun, so were did the other rider go ???? AWOL.. Heading back towards town the single track and fire roads threw out all the necessary challenges including the Magic Mile track for the tough dudes.
As always, the Turtle and the Hare groups ended doing almost identical 37km and 800+ m of climbing. Super fun, sensational tracks, brilliant riding from 35 Bushrangers and associates.
Serious concerns were raised as to how “La botiga Café” would cope with so many hungry mouths as always, the delivered in superb style….. Thanks .
