GOGIRL BVRT Ride report 21/09/20 – 24/09/20
Day 1 GoGIRL BVRT tour began with John shuttling us to the start of our ride at Yarraman. The ride was gently undulating and we were soon chatting, laughing and enjoying the scenery. There were numerous magpie attacks but you’ll be happy to know no one was seriously injured.
Right from the car park we were soon swooping stories I mean swapping stories of different strategies to over come this. There was interesting Darth Vader head gear worn, silver tails but after much experimentation, it was decided the most successful was riding in tight formation, two by two bikie style. One of the J’s (Jennifer Turner, Jennifer Hurrel, Jenny Kemp or Julia Petts) could often be heard talking sweetly which seemed to work very efficiently for her.
We had a lovely feed and rest at Blackbutt park before rolling back to the delightful Linville Pub after riding 43km where there was more food, wine and chatter about the day.
Day 2 GoGIRL BVRT saw us sadly packed up and saying goodbye to lovely Linville Pub and the quirky Bird’s cage. After thanking Leah and Paul for making us feel at home, we reflected on everything that had added to the relaxed feel; huge outdoor dining; sweeping verandas where we enjoyed breakfast with a view; fire pit for deep conversations; quick and efficient kitchen to feed hungry ladies with softly playing guitar in the background. It was a family affair with everyone on deck embracing us cyclists. It was definitely worth the 2 night stop over. Some ladies were keener to go than others and there was much discussion on how much sleep they had.
After it was deemed that we had, had enough, we began our journey to Esk via the old tunnel. We stopped at Toogoolawah for lunch and coffee and were so grateful again for the quick service.
At the end of the day’s ride we were treated by Angela Nelson for some gentle movement therapy which we found very relaxing. I almost fell asleep except Angela kept asking me if I was alright as my eyes kept shutting and would not open. There were other tired ladies, but we felt proud as some of us had completed personal bests and added another 55km.
Day 3 GoGIRL BVRT we left the hospitality of Jo at Esk the Grand hotel to ride the remaining 45km to finish atFernvale having completed 154 km averaging about 50km a day
.
On the last day we started out together early in a cool breeze. As the weather warmed, we progressed at a steady pace to make only short snack and hydration stops. There was a slightly faster group that went ahead and waited periodically for the rear who were happy to go a little slower often stopping to take in the sights. There were no mechanicals on day 3 and we all ended up in Fernvale ready for a big feed and a quieter trip home as there were lots of weary cyclists happy to end the journey and get on the luxury coach but a little sad to say good bye to our new friends. We were only appeased by the thought of riding together again soon. Goodbye BVRT till we see you again.
