Mapleton Delicia rd ride Report
Ride Reports Mapleton Delicia rd 22/5/2022
Apparently, it has been the wettest in 32 years from January to May.
Amazingly we got lucky again! No rain to start with. 20 riders set off in cloudy conditions west along Delicia rd in search of heights, happiness and the sun…??? Steep rainforest descent to the start of Gheerulla falls turn off for a quick regroup before a sole searching ascent of the DH track road climb.
Once back on top of the world low cloud made for cool pedaling past lifestyle retreats with fancy property names and folk-art features, surely they were unaware of the Bushranger presence stealing the wonder of the ambience.
End of the road made for a new adventure loop instigated by JWS following the fire track to a temporary waterfall and creek crossing narrow but deep enough to swallow a wheel or two. Grippy rocky climbing tracks, wilderness bushland and some walking, we made it to a foggy lookout where the sun came out for 10.2 seconds enough for us to believe it still existed.
Onto a second mountain summit lookout with some more blue cloud (SUN) and pictures as evidence Delicia rd was re-joined and ridden back towards Mapleton up the huge earlier downhills. The luck ran out with light rain greeting us near the cemetery washing of the high-speed gravel rd grit from butts and bikes.
Needing internal warming the Coffee shop had a big table to accommodate the rogue bunch of slightly damp Bushrangers.
La Botiga Café provided amazing service warm atmosphere and friendly staff, Thank You once again.
24km and 750m of climbing proved the higher you go the happier your ride….Spectacular country around Mapleton. Great riding everyone.
