About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Just getting into Mountain Biking? Try the Ferny Forest trails

Ferny Forest is a 10km loop track that is great for all riders but is especially good for new riders to build confidence and their fitness. The trail is well marked and goes through some beautiful forest and along the edge of the Ewan Maddock Dam. You can either park in the carpark opposite the Big Cart Track or there is another carpark near the real estate agent towards the Mooloolah turn-off. There is more information in the "Where to ride" section here. From the latest SEQ Water update email. Ewen Maddock toilet block A new mountain bike trail network has opened on National Parks land adjacent to the Ornamental Wetlands at Ewen Maddock. To support this new facility, we are in the process of approving and installing a new toilet block at the trail’s head which starts on Seqwater land. The new toilet block should be complete late 2016. ...

Mapleton Community Ride Summary

Overcast and not too cold most of us arrived just before 7am and were good to go by 7:15am. Just after we left a few others arrived… I should have made the summer time starting time a bit more obvious as a few people were still running on the winter times – remember to double check the meeting and ride-off time on the calendar event.

Sunshine Coast Bike Week – Sep 24th to Oct 2nd

Hi Folks, The Sunshine Coast Bike Week is coming up in a few months and like last year we're putting up our Mapleton Community Ride on the 2nd of October as an event. The Sunshine Coast Regional Council will kindly promote our ride along with many other cycling related activities that will be happening during those 9 days.. The Sunshine Coast CycleFest will be the premier event on the 24/25th September which will present a number of races and rides (on road) and the CycleVillage Markets at Cotton Tree park. What is Bike Week? The major aim of the week is to simply encourage people of all ages and cycling abilities to get out on their bikes and to learn more about cycling. We hope to achieve this by not only involving people in planned council activities, but in events offered by other cycling related businesses and groups as well. Hope to see you out there....

Go GIRL Gets a Treat

The Go GIRLs arrived at Linedrive Tce Bunyaville on time and introduced themselves to the Brisbane ladies that we were to ride with that morning on the Jinker trails. (We were missing some of our favourites due to injuries and surgeries and such. But we will be sure to tell them how much fun we had and look forward to them joining us when they are able). Those who could make it were in for a treat but didn't know it because I didn't tell them who was to be our ride leader that day. Sonja, second in charge was getting worried and was about to send a search party as I was nowhere in sight. Having never intentionally missed a ride, phone calls were made. Arriving 10 minutes later, with too much stuff on my mind and not enough sleep, I was ready to blow the cobwebs out. We all have times we would rather keep our heads under the pillow. Note...

Parklands MTB Trail Project Update

This afternoon I submitted our application for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council (SCRC) Community Grants – “Major Grants – Community Facilities grant”. Completing one of three grant applications we’re working on.

This application is the result of many, many hours of effort and I would like to thank everyone who helped out – including Michael (our secretary), Rob (SCTA), Helen (SCRC Grants Officer), Kurt (SCRC Trails Activation Officer), Eugene (Ranger), Kathy (NSPR Grants Officer) and the local trail building businesses who submitted quotes to us with short notice.

Once again we would like to thank all those who have sent in letters of support – they are extremely useful for demonstrating the support this project has. We still need letters for the state grant so please continue sending them in.

Nambour Together Festival Summary

While not mountain bike specific, or cycling for that matter, the Nambour Together mini-festival did provide us a presence in the local community of Nambour.  Michael, Julie and I talked to a few interested people about what the club is about, a few of our initiatives such as the Parklands MTB Trail Project and about the rides we do - the usual things. The highlight for me was a couple of actual clowns took interest in Michael's fat bike validating my opinion that it's a clown bike. Next up - the Sunshine Coast CycleFest....

Sugarbag Trails MoU Signing

Starting out as a few tracks snaking throughout a forest nestled between Sugar Bag Road and the Caloundra industrial estate the Sugarbag trail network has steadily grown into what it is today - 12km of tight single track littered with technical features. As the trail network has recently been sanctioned by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the council and the Caloundra Off-Road Cycling Association (CORCA) for the ongoing maintenance and development of these trails has been drafted and will be officially signed on Saturday 6th August at the old council storage yard off Sugar Bag Road, the event will start 8am and will run until 1pm, with the signing at 8:30am. Morning tea, lunch, and drinks will be provided. Take your favourite trail care tool if you would like to lend a hand maintaining the trails. I would like to congratulate CORCA and Kurt Martin (Sunshine Coast Regional Council) for their hard work securing the MoU and the future of the Sugarbag trail network....

More support is coming in for Parklands

A big thanks to the following people who have sent through letters of support for the first part of the Parklands upgrade (Skills park and novice and flow trails): Ryan (99 Bikes) Ben (Castara Empresa) Steve (CORCA) Marty (EnPlusOne) Susie (Go-GIRLs) Tony (Nambour Alliance) Greg (Nambour Rotary Club) Kurt (Sunshine Coast Regional Council) Paul (Woombye State School) and local councilor Steve Robinson. We still need more so if anyone wants to send in their own letters of support or know of someone else who can then use this sample letter as a guide (link) and send it through to me at secretary@bushrangers.org. Also if anyone knows a company or person who is happy to give us a tax deductible donation towards the work send them to https://asf.org.au/organisation/bushrangers-mountain-bike-club/ and we can give them some love on our website and through social media. If anyone wants to offer us some other sort of support then please let us know....

Nambour Together Festival Sunday 31st July

The club will be spruiking its activities and initiatives such as the Parklands MTB Trails Project at the Nambour Together 'mini-festival' this Sunday. For those who don't know what the festival is about: "Nambour Together is a festival day that showcases the best food, entertainment, art and services Nambour has to offer with a touch of local flair." The event will be at Quota Park, Matthew Street, Nambour - starting at 11am and going through to 3pm. We're aiming to get our image out into the local community as much as possible over the next year to drum up support that will hopefully result in more members, connections, increased awareness and donations for trails maintenance and development and MTB activities and events. If you happen to be in the area be sure to drop in and say hi.  ...
