Updated Trail Counts and Grants Update

Updated Trail Counts and Grants Update

Hi Folks,

I’ve just checked the counters after a couple of months. The new trails at Parklands are attracting a sustained thousand rides a month and they seem to be holding up okay. You can view the stats on our Trail Care page. If you do notice issues with any trails within Parklands please be sure to send an email to [email protected] and we’ll discuss it with QPWS.

A worn timber bridge that was made worse by Cyclone Debbie’s down pour.

Also, we’ve submitted an application for round 7 of the Queensland Government’s Get Playing – Places and Spaces grant, the Sunshine Coast Council have already approved us for a major community grant that will be the co-contribution for this grant.

Working with QPWS we’re seeking to fix up all the creek crossings throughout the Parklands Conversation park. Rock armouring will be the preferred method however bridges will be installed/upgraded where needed. Additionally many ‘fall line’ trails will be reworked and drainage issues remedied.

We hope that this body of work will bring the trail network up to scratch. This will free everyone up to start focusing on future developments for Parklands and further afield. If we’re successful I anticipate the work to begin Q2 2019 and be completed around mid-2020.

In the interim, we have a Community Benefit Fund grant to spend on trail care so keep an eye out for upcoming trail care days.

Stay safe, keep riding!

Paul Vandeleur starts the 6500km Terra Australis Bike Epic 2018

Paul Vandeleur starts the 6500km Terra Australis Bike Epic 2018
6am start at Cape York - Terra Australis 2018 is off and racing!

From the top to the bottom of mainland Australia.

We just wanted to give a shout out to Bushranger member Paul Vandeleur who has commenced the Terra Australia Bike Epic 2018.

They started in Cape York on Saturday and they’ll ride across the continent and finish at Wilsons Promontory (so mainland Australia’s northernmost tip to it’s southernmost tip – 6500km!!) Paul has done over 400km already, so if you want him to grab you something from inland Queensland then you better hit him up soon e.g. coal, gemstones, cattle – I’m sure he’ll have space in his pannier bags.

All the info is here – https://www.terraustralisbikepic.com/ and you track him live at http://trackleaders.com/terraustralis18f.php

Good luck Paul!

News Flash!

News Flash!
<insert exciting news theme music here>

Hello folks!

Just wanted to quickly let you all know about some recent milestones and events that have happened or will be happening.

Charity Race Day

  • The recent charity race day raised over $700 for Cystic Fibrosis Queensland – thanks to all the riders, volunteers and sponsors for everything.

Membership

  • Club membership continues to grow. We now have almost 300 members and a third of them women (much better than the 6% it used to be). Thanks to the GoGIRLs and the council sponsored GOGA initiative.

Grants

  • We just scored another grant for over $13000 to help in repair work throughout Parklands e.g. bridges, rock armouring, causeways, drainage etc.
  • In the next couple of months we will be submitting a grant application for the big $150k State Government grant with help from our already approved Sunshine Coast Council grant to meet the co-contribution requirements.

Training

  • We will be starting up subsidised MTB training workshops soon and also offer free bike maintenance workshops on topics like bike fit, suspension setup, trail repairs etc.
  • We recently completed a MTBA Trail-building workshop with about 20 people from around the coast all learning the how’s and why’s of building trails.

So there is a bit of good news to brighten your day!
