About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Gravel Grinder Ride

Gravel grinders are gravel road races and rides that combine riding on surfaces such as asphalt, gravel, dirt, some singletrack trails and maintenance or B roads. The courses vary from hard-packed dirt to softball-sized rocks. The distance usually ranges between 80 and 250 kilometres, but can be longer.

Royce Grinding GravelAs we’re always endeavouring to try new things and expand our community we will be giving ‘gravel’ riding a go. A few in the club have already been doing it but to the people who aren’t familiar with the concept it’s basically riding a modified road bike, called a gravel bike, on dirt roads and mild single track. You can also use a cyclocross bike and of course a mountain bike but with skinnier tyres and a less aggressive tread pattern to better suit the surface/distance.

Supporting the Local Bike Shops Initiative

We believe that local bike clubs are in a great position to help support local bike shops. Our members can give the shops their custom and endorsements and then members get advice, support and a place to get that small bolt that you snapped the day before a race. We had to think of a way to support all the shops. A way that was also easy to manage and didn't alienate anyone. So the plan is that we simply invite a bike shop to come ride with us each month (probably the Parklands or the social ride). So in doing this we get to meet the bike shops, ask them questions and ogle/drool over the new bikes. The bike shops get to meet us, tell us any industry news and show us their wares in action. We are hoping that this will help build a strong network within the local cycling community which will help in future events such as races, trail advocacy, grant applications and promoting...

Next month we'll be helping out the Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) with their Hinterland CycleFest event by leading two mountain bike rides starting from the township of Wamuran. A short, easy, route will take us along the old railway route north of Wamuran and back totalling around 25km and not a lot of climbing. An alternative, longer, route will take us further into the Beerburrum State Forestry area and will have a bit of everything and will be around 45km (this route is to be confirmed). The rides will start at 8am, Saturday the 17th of September and will start/end at Nasho's Park, Atwood Street, Warmuran QLD. We'll be back in time for a free BBQ lunch provided by the MBRC. Just getting into Mountain Biking? Try the Ferny Forest trails

Ferny Forest is a 10km loop track that is great for all riders but is especially good for new riders to build confidence and their fitness. The trail is well marked and goes through some beautiful forest and along the edge of the Ewan Maddock Dam. You can either park in the carpark opposite the Big Cart Track or there is another carpark near the real estate agent towards the Mooloolah turn-off. There is more information in the "Where to ride" section here. From the latest SEQ Water update email. The new toilet block should be complete late 2016. ...

Mapleton Community Ride Summary

Overcast and not too cold most of us arrived just before 7am and were good to go by 7:15am. Just after we left a few others arrived… I should have made the summer time starting time a bit more obvious as a few people were still running on the winter times – remember to double check the meeting and ride-off time on the calendar event.

The Sunshine Coast CycleFest will be the premier event on the 24/25th September which will present a number of races and rides (on road) and the CycleVillage Markets at Cotton Tree park. What is Bike Week? The major aim of the week is to simply encourage people of all ages and cycling abilities to get out on their bikes and to learn more about cycling. We hope to achieve this by not only involving people in planned council activities, but in events offered by other cycling related businesses and groups as well. Hope to see you out there....

Go GIRL Gets a Treat

The Go GIRLs arrived at Linedrive Tce Bunyaville on time and introduced themselves to the Brisbane ladies that we were to ride with that morning on the Jinker trails. (We were missing some of our favourites due to injuries and surgeries and such. But we will be sure to tell them how much fun we had and look forward to them joining us when they are able). Those who could make it were in for a treat but didn't know it because I didn't tell them who was to be our ride leader that day. Sonja, second in charge was getting worried and was about to send a search party as I was nowhere in sight. Having never intentionally missed a ride, phone calls were made. Arriving 10 minutes later, with too much stuff on my mind and not enough sleep, I was ready to blow the cobwebs out. We all have times we would rather keep our heads under the pillow. Note...
