About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Royce on his singlespeed – apparently “One gear means more beer”

Pete, Toby and Royce all raced at Hiddenvale over the weekend in the Merida 24hr race. Pete got 2nd place and did 23 laps in the 24 hours. That equals to 358km with 5807m of elevation according to Strava. Royce did 111km for his team which came in 4th place for the team category. Toby got a respectable 28th in his category.

If we’ve missed anyone let us know and we’ll get it sorted!

Parklands Ride Summary – 09/04/2017

Parklands was filled with Bushrangers on Sunday morning, as we had the normal club ride happening as well as a rookie ride for our beginner riders.

Sunday was also a very special day because not only was the weather sublime but it was also the official “Cherish an Antique Day” and “Name Yourself Day”. I’m a bit upset because if I had known earlier then I would’ve given Terry and Alf a big hug and called myself Max Power. But next Sunday is “Eggs Benedict Day” or “Wear Your Pyjamas to Work Day” so FYI everyone!

Big hello to our regular and new members and welcome to all of our guests for the day. I hope you all had a good ride.

Signing off,

Max Power!!
Club Secretary

Plantation forests closed in south east and central Queensland

All pine plantations in south east and central Queensland state forests and on HQPlantations freehold land have closed due to extreme heavy rainfall events. Affected plantation areas include the Fraser Coast, Elliott River, Beerburrum (including the Glasshouse Mountains), Mary Valley, Jimna, Yarraman, Pechey-Esk, Passchendaele, Byfield and Kalpowar areas. The plantations are closed to all public access until at least Wednesday, 5 April 2017 to allow proper assessment of risks and recovery from the weather event. Due to the localised and heavy nature of rainfall events many of the plantation roads and tracks may be subject to flooding and may be damaged creating a serious risk to people attempting to use them. The potential for rapid rises of streams and waterways from heavy rainfall in the plantation areas is high increasing the risk to life and property. HQPlantations is appealing to the public to respect this closure so that safe and responsible access to the plantations can be restored to the public as soon as...

Yandina/Cooloolabin Ride Summary – 26/03/2017

I like this ride because I can sleep in as it’s only 15 minutes drive away. I guess I could save a dolphin and ride to the meeting point…

Now this ride is split between two meeting points because the Bottle and Glass Road is a hefty climb and not everyone likes to start their day on the side of a dirt road vomiting up their breakfast due to over-exertion. However if this sounds like your kind of thing then make sure you come along to our Bottle’n’Glass Hill Climb race in Easter! That said quite a few riders chose to start in Yandina and brave the large climb to meet with the other group near the Cooloolabin Dam trail head.

Once the two groups had merged we started along the Cooloolabin Dam single-track that goes along the dam wall and follows the shoreline and eventually finishes in the day use area near the spillway. The recent rains had caused a bit of debris along the track but nothing that couldn’t be easily moved or ridden over.  This trail brings nice water views, beautiful little thickets of trees to ride through and nice loamy soils with the occasional obstacle to tackle.

This week’s predicted rain will hopefully give Cooloolabin dam a good top-up

2017 Bushrangers MTB Club AGM Summary

We really need better models

The Maroochy Botanical Gardens was beautiful as always and it’s always a great place to have meetings. The rain held off but the humidity still came to the party but despite the mugginess the meeting was well attended and went pretty well (considering the dodgy secretary didn’t know what he had to do). Ben, Susie and Craig let us all know what was happening with the club, GoGirls and the money and there were some good ideas introduced by the members that are going to be researched then instigated ASAP.

We’ve filled the 10 positions for the upcoming coaching clinic so we can have some more MTBA qualified coaches in our ranks. I’ll also look into getting group rates for first aid certificates so I’ll let everyone know about that (just in case Carol crashes again).
