About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

2016 Member Survey is Live!

Hello Bushrangers, I've just emailed all our members with the link to the new and improved 2016 survey. Even though the 2015 survey was not completed by everyone, the results were still instrumental in this year's growth and initiatives. So this year we've tried to make it smaller and only asked questions we needed to. So please complete this survey because if the grants come in we need to make sure we spend it on the right things. Thanks everyone!...

2015 Member Survey Summary and Results

Hello everyone,

Bushrangers Logo 2016 - Colour-01In the next couple of days the 2016 Bushrangers Member Survey will be sent out and unlike the recent census we won’t ask you weird questions about your sex life and hopefully we won’t have a major database crash halfway through. Below is a summary of last years results and what has been done about them.

The 2015 survey showed the following issues were important to our members:

  • Update website
  • More activities for women
  • More coaching clinics/skills training
  • More participation at races as a club
  • More camping events
  • More variation in the ride locations
  • Winter/Summer hours (Start rides later in winter)
  • More information about the rides (i.e. how long and how difficult they’ll be)
  • More advanced rides (longer distances, more challenging, less stopping).

The overall satisfaction rating was 3.7/5

Parklands MTB Trails Project – Grant Submissions Done!

Today we submitted our applications for the Get Going Clubs grants. These are in addition to the recently submitted Gambling Benefits Fund grant and a Sunshine Coast Regional Council grant. These applications are the result of hundreds of hours of preparation by many people from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services, Sport and Recreation, Sunshine Coast Trails Alliance, Council, the local community and the Bushrangers committee. Thanks to everyone who helped us and thanks to the trail builders who submitted quotations for the work. A big thanks goes to the following people who helped strengthen our application with their letters of support: Ryan Guest (99 Bikes) Ben O'Duhring (Castara Empresa) Daniel Yujnovich (Crankwork Cyclery) Steve Ossedryver (CORCA) Hayden Lester (D'Aguilar Range Cycling Club) Marty Webster (EnPlusOne) Susie Hume (Go-GIRLs) John Searston (Have Fun Tours) Tony Vella (Nambour Alliance) Bruce Campbell (Nambour Christian College) Greg Hale (Nambour Rotary Club) Royce Vandeleur (Palmwoods Physiotherapy) Melissa Taylor (Parkrun) Mal Keeble (Sunshine Coast Cycling Club) Kurt Martin (Sunshine Coast Regional Council) Shaun Lauder (TAFE Queensland) ...

Parklands MTB Trail Project Update

This afternoon I submitted our application for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council (SCRC) Community Grants – “Major Grants – Community Facilities grant”. Completing one of three grant applications we’re working on.

This application is the result of many, many hours of effort and I would like to thank everyone who helped out – including Michael (our secretary), Rob (SCTA), Helen (SCRC Grants Officer), Kurt (SCRC Trails Activation Officer), Eugene (Ranger), Kathy (NSPR Grants Officer) and the local trail building businesses who submitted quotes to us with short notice.

Once again we would like to thank all those who have sent in letters of support – they are extremely useful for demonstrating the support this project has. We still need letters for the state grant so please continue sending them in.

Sugarbag Trails MoU Signing

Starting out as a few tracks snaking throughout a forest nestled between Sugar Bag Road and the Caloundra industrial estate the Sugarbag trail network has steadily grown into what it is today - 12km of tight single track littered with technical features. As the trail network has recently been sanctioned by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the council and the Caloundra Off-Road Cycling Association (CORCA) for the ongoing maintenance and development of these trails has been drafted and will be officially signed on Saturday 6th August at the old council storage yard off Sugar Bag Road, the event will start 8am and will run until 1pm, with the signing at 8:30am. Morning tea, lunch, and drinks will be provided. Take your favourite trail care tool if you would like to lend a hand maintaining the trails. I would like to congratulate CORCA and Kurt Martin (Sunshine Coast Regional Council) for their hard work securing the MoU and the future of the Sugarbag trail network....

More support is coming in for Parklands

A big thanks to the following people who have sent through letters of support for the first part of the Parklands upgrade (Skills park and novice and flow trails): Ryan (99 Bikes) Ben (Castara Empresa) Steve (CORCA) Marty (EnPlusOne) Susie (Go-GIRLs) Tony (Nambour Alliance) Greg (Nambour Rotary Club) Kurt (Sunshine Coast Regional Council) Paul (Woombye State School) and local councilor Steve Robinson. We still need more so if anyone wants to send in their own letters of support or know of someone else who can then use this sample letter as a guide (link) and send it through to me at secretary@bushrangers.org. Also if anyone knows a company or person who is happy to give us a tax deductible donation towards the work send them to https://asf.org.au/organisation/bushrangers-mountain-bike-club/ and we can give them some love on our website and through social media. If anyone wants to offer us some other sort of support then please let us know....

Give your trails a tax-deductible donation

The Bush Rangers MTB Club have teamed up with the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) to get a DGR1 status which means all your donations to the club are tax deductible for you. This money will be used to fund the $25k co-contribution amount for upcoming government grants for a skills area, novice loop and flow trails and also for annual trail maintenance and to help put on race events and skills clinics. There is a donate link on www.bushrangers.org or you can just go straight to our ASF donation page at https://asf.org.au/organisation/bushrangers-mountain-bike-club/ Thanks for your generosity and as always stay safe and keep riding!...

CANCELLED – Sugarbag Ride (Sunday 19th June)

We've been checking many different sources of weather information and it is looking like it will be pretty wet and possibly dangerous to be out and about this Sunday. Even a pavement ride will be uncomfortable and we rather not have people out and about in their cars so we're going to call it a bike maintenance day, or a roller day, or catch up on your favourite MTB videos day. It's not often we outright cancel a ride without an alternative but with these predicted severe weather events we rather err on the side of caution. Stay safe and lets hope for clear skies next week for the Parklands Dash and Wooroi ride....
