About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Glasshouse Mountains Ride Summary (15/01/2017)

Hello ‘Rangers!

So I noticed that 3 was the lucky number for Sunday’s ride e.g. 3 hours of riding, 3 lookouts visited, 3 litres of sweat loss!

After the last few hot days it was a pleasant surprise to see the weather app saying it would be below 30ºC. However I forgot to account for the 3000% humidity level. I could’ve thrown a fish in the air and watched it swim away.

Greg finally decided to grace us with his presence for 2017

We parked at the Glasshouse Mountain footy club and rode alongside Steve Irwin way towards Mt Tibrogargan.  We worked our way along to the first lookout and quickly checked out the view. It was eerily silent so I assumed the birds had all drowned or something.

We then proceeded to the Jack Ferris Lookout (obviously named after the guy who invented the Ferris wheel). Here we stopped to enjoy the view and have a rest but we didn’t stay long. It was just too still and clammy, we had to keep moving to keep cool. Also there was like 3-million mozzies attacking our faces.

Parklands Ride Summary 08/01/2017

Haven’t rode in Parklands all year! (haha I kill me).

While we dawdled around the end of Atkinson Road waiting for the late arrivals to get ready Will brandished his latest trail weapon – a black and yellow Intense Carbine (Intense with a capital I, although it was pretty exciting). Yielding it with a deftness reserved for the most skilled of riders he sprinted into the forest to surmount the prevailing chaos of rocks, sticks, and the occasional bandicoot. The ragtag group of bushies and guests from Gympie and Brissy loosely followed…

Ewen Maddock Dam/Ferny Forest ride summary (01/01/2017)

New rider Terry bombing down Horseshoe trail

New rider Terry bombing down Horseshoe trail

Our regular readers might remember a summary from November that tried to poetically describe (rather beautifully if I do say so) how hot it was that day. Well I believe last Sunday’s ride was hotter than that. However it was a stealthy heat because you only felt it when you stopped moving,  like WHAM! and your standing in a melted slush puddle that was once your will to live. But while you were moving it was OK so like Dory says in Finding Nemo – “Just keep swimming” (that’s a little pop culture reference to show how “hip” we are to all the young kids).

The rider turnout was pretty good considering it was the day after New Year’s Eve – no one smelt like grog or a bathroom floor (well no one apart from me anyway but I blame my Old Spice cologne). We started from Maddock park as usual but instead of the typical ride through the dam trails, Dularcha railway tunnel and then coffee at either Mooloolah or Landsborough we went along a sneaky shortcut from the dam trails over to the Ferny Forest trails. The shortcut meant we only had to be on the Steve Irwin Way for about 100m and we could be on the inside of the safety barrier away from the cars. It worked great and no one died so that’s a good win I guess.

Wooroi Ride Summary – 18/12/2016

Unlike previous summary write-ups that can be quite crass and rather uncivilised I thought I’d start off with a lovely poem I’ve called… A Crap Poem for Wooroi!

Rocks roll and move, the fallen sticks snap
Float and lean on the fast flowy track
Nobby tyres grip, high berms guide
Singletrack narrow, fire road wide
Look at where to go, not what to hit
Stop my Strava if it all turns to shit

Not bad eh? That’s freakin’ classy as!! But enough of this high-brow nonsense.

Mapleton Community Ride Summary 04/12/2016

On this ride I found out that plus bike riders are people too. Buying into the middle ground of tyre sizes never pays off - it's not the best of both worlds, it's boring being-all-things beige. Pick a side and defend it with all the misinformation and confirmation bias you can muster in a 5 minute google search! However; Graham and Daniel were the two plus bike riders this ride, a Norco and a Scott respectively and I discovered that you can talk to them and they won't try and validate why they wasted so much money on a marketing gimmick. As a matter of fact they're quite normal. So the next time you bump into a fence sitting semi-fat rider give them the benefit of a doubt and look past their shortcomings. Maybe you could help them out by convincing them to go back to normal sized tyres. [/sarcasm, I actually like plus bikes] Getting on with the summary...

GoGIRLs in Parklands

Parklands, its reputation as a gnarly and technical park is well known. Most ladies avoid riding here for a myriad of reasons. A year on, has anything changed? Personally, my happy endorphins go wild when I do something really hard. You can often hear me screaming for joy. Sorry in advance if you wanted peace and quiet! But I just can’t keep that kind of excitement bottled up. And I have a great need to share this with others. Hence why GoGIRLs started. Kindred spirits know what I’m taking about. That great sense of achievement you feel when you make a particularly tricky section that you have never made before; be it going through a narrow gap through two trees whist climbing around a sharp pinch, (Bee Hive), weaving in and out of the tropical jungle (Cancer tree) or getting over a large log stack for the first time (Beginning of HoChiHo). But is it possible to share this wonderful world of Parklands...
