About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Parklands Night Ride Summary – 21/06/2017

[caption id="attachment_3579" align="alignright" width="169"] Amazing how bright a little light can be[/caption] It was the nightiest of nights as it was the winter solstice and because we don't do things by halves we chose to ride in this  cold inky blackness. The soon-to-be haunters of the Parklands trails materialised out from the shadows, hungry for dark gnar! They rode their mechanical steeds of metal, carbon and rubber, with their lights fighting to burn away the dark and expose the single track ahead. It was particularly quiet on this mysterious night, as if the creatures knew something we did not. This stillness was soon shattered by the sound of our tyres on rock and jovial banter as we rode the tight and twisty trails into the unseen. “Rookie Road” Wins

We received 50 votes and the clear winner was "Rookie Road". "Pigtails" came close but couldn't beat it (even after someone cheated and voted for it numerous times - tsk tsk!). [caption id="attachment_3583" align="aligncenter" width="703"] Clear winner is "Rookie Road"[/caption] QPWS have a naming policy (e.g. not potentially offensive, rude, gross, clear english etc). That's why the cool names like "4play", "entrails" and "Thrillz 2 Skillz" didn't get a shoe in. But we are getting new trails and a lot of help so I'm not complaining....

New Jerseys are coming! ….very slowly

Hey everyone, Yeah I know the jerseys have been on the cards for ages but trying to find someone to make them has been a bugger of a chore. However I think I've found someone to do all the jersey/shirt/singlet iterations we need at a good price. I've been talking to others in the club and doing a lot of research on jersey styles and shapes so the artwork has gone through a lot of changes. To give you an idea of the journey I've had, the filenames are like "BRMTB-Jersey-2016-idea-19-v7-FINAL-v3-LAST FINAL-v2.pdf". Which shows a very poor file management system that I really need to work on. So anyway, we are going to offer the following: Standard XC cycle jerseys (short/long sleeve and club/race fit) in two styles - "Spare parts" and "Black diamond" Bib-shorts - Black with logo and matching artwork Trail shirts (loose fit v-neck with short sleeves, 3/4 sleeves and long sleeves) in the two styles - "Spare parts" and "Black...

RACE TIME! 3hr Endurance Race at Paul’s Place – 29th July

We’re heading back to the Paul’s private push-bike playground and he has been busy these last few months so expect new features to explore as you smash out the laps.

This time we’re running with a 3hr endurance format (otherwise known as cross-country endurance or XCEN). You try and do as many 4km laps as possible in the timeframe and where equal number of laps have been completed the one with the fastest time overall wins.

After the race stay around for a BBQ lunch and drinks.

When: Saturday 29/07/2017 at 9AM (Registration between 7AM and 8:30AM)
Where: Ruwoldts Road, Dulong – map
Race Format: Cross-country Endurance (XCEN)
Costs: $10 (Bushranger members free – use the discount code)

Kenilworth Ride Summary – 18/06/2017

That was a big tree

Today I learned that the ‘e’ in e-bike really means ‘elevation’. The four e-bikers along for the ride spent most of their time admiring the views while the rest of us couldn’t see with all the sweat dripping into our eyeballs.

Driving down into the valley from Obi Obi to Kenilworth, through the early morning winter fog, the sun beaming through the trees was inspiring. I would’ve stopped to take a photo but being foggy and the road popular with motorcyclist I didn’t want to risk it.

The sleepy town of Kenilworth is one of my favourite places to go for a drive/motorbike ride out to for a coffee. I highly suggest heading out that way and checking out the local attractions such as Borumba Dam (near Imbil) and Canondale National Park where we rode today.

We gathered at the Charlie Moreland day use area and set off just past 8AM. We went up Sunday Creek road where the majority of the 1300m total climbing was. We stopped at the lookout half way up to give ourselves a bit of a breather and the views amongst the foothills overlooking the plantations was great.

Next stop was at the top of Summer Falls Road where people wanting a shorter ride could head down to the falls to chill out before making their way back. Whereas the others can continue on to come back from a different direction.

We reached the end of the loop (650m above sea level ) and then started heading back via a forestry management track. There is amazing rainforest over this north western side of the park and this was well received by the group. It was along this section that we bumped into Quinton who was in the middle of his ride (all the way from Mooloolah). Afterwards we continued on to Summer Falls were we took our break and appreciated the waterfalls.

Heading back up to Sunday Creek Road we hopped across and headed up to the Mt Allan Fire Tower. A bit of scrambling was required in some places but we all made it and were grateful that the tower was once again open for climbing. There’s awesome views from the tower with almost complete 360 degree views of the surrounding area (as one would expect from a tower meant to observe potential bushfire activity).

By this time I think no one, not even the e-bikers, wanted to see another hill so the ride back down to the campground was a nice change.

We got back to the cars at 12:30PM which was about an hour longer than anticipated but everyone loved the ride. Lunch was at the Kenilworth Bakery.

Support the Northern Rivers Community Trail

[caption id="attachment_3515" align="alignright" width="300"] Proposed NRRT map[/caption] Hi Folks, A proposed 130km Northern Rivers Rail Trail that travels between Murwillumbah and Casino, snaking through the beautiful areas of north east NSW, has been on our radar for a while now and it looks like it's getting closer to becoming a reality. They need funding to cover the design and detailed planning of the Casino to Eltham section of the trail. I like to think of these kinds of trails as investments for later on in life when gnarly single track becomes too difficult to ride. July ’17 – March ’18 Calendar Update

[caption id="attachment_2457" align="alignright" width="225"] Sugarbag trails are now on the list for our easy community rides[/caption] Hi Folks, You may have noticed the club calendar has been updated until March 2018. There are a couple of changes but the main one is that our easier community rides are now at three different locations with the additional location being at the Sugar Bag trails. So please double check the first Sunday of the month rides as it will alternate between the three locations, next month is Ewen Maddock Dam, August is at Sugar Bag, September is Mapleton and so on. The Parklands Conservation Park ride will continue being on the second Sunday of the month, swapping between Atkinson and Radar Hill Road sides. We have also included the Bunyaville Conservation Park trails into the mix of our Sunday rides. Before these were treated as an 'away ride' however since they're not that much farther than many of our rides time wise we'll give it a go. Additionally...

Go GIRL Jinker Trails Summary

GoGIRL linked with Nicci Orr and the Brisbane girls for a ride around the Jinker Trails at Bunyaville. We started off at a slower pace than usual from James Drysdale Recreation Park with 15 ladies and picked up Solo Heather on the way (Turns out she raced with me back in the day, small world hey). Kathy and Janine, a couple of local girls joined us too. They were new to the sport so we adapted the speed to suit them giving them riding tips on the way. We began with Wayne’s World which flowed onto WW: new and improved and that is what we found. All the trails were tweaked and were even more fun than the last time. After climbing into Mini Van, we Zigzagged along Dugandan Road to The Jinker Tack via 10 and 1. The climbing and techy sections proved a bit of a challenge to our new riders. They had fun but were a bit puffed.  So at this point they opted to end their ride close to the carpark but promised to join us again soon already making plans with the local girls to join them the next day.

After saying goodbye we went Creekside and took the Original Creek Track. We picked up the pace and were Flickn Sticks to number 6. There was no Carnage on Kokoda but I Love that Hill, it’s only Short Hill. We did the whole Dam Loop in record time mastering The Steps where we stopped to hone our skills. A Policeman checked out our Dirt Racers. Nicci showed us how to jump, it was Jinker Magic. A Froot Loopin time was had by all. Why not join us on our next Mystery tour.
