Wide Bay XCEN Series – Race 1, Bundaberg Summary
Nice trails, great club, perfect weather made for a fantastic event. Also the race start being at 9am provided plenty of time to arrive and warm up or sleep in. On top of that any earlier and the cold would have been something to contend with because I don’t think it really started to warm up until the last lap.
The approximately 15km loop with 200m elevation consisted of a good mix of fire roads, sparse and dense forest (watch those bars), rocky sections and a brilliant flowy section about half way. The HQ group, three marshals and that keen supporter guy banging on a set of disused forks kept up the motivation.
Maintaining traction was the theme of the course with loose over hard and soft sand on turn exits waiting to catch the tired and distracted rider. Also there was the occasional rocky section that could cause a burp or sidewall rip if you’re not careful.
Thanks goes to Mountain Biking Bundaberg Inc and their supporters for hosting the event and a great set of trails – very well co-ordinated and a great bunch of people. Be sure to checkout the Wide Bay XCEN series facebook page. More photos available >here< – thanks BundyMTB and Brad!
