12/06/2016 Parklands Ride Summary
Over thirty riders took advantage of a great day to hit Parklands – overcast with a stable 15°C. Andrew lead the “less stoppy group” and Toby took the “more stoppy group” and all pretty much ended back at the cars at the same time so excellent route selection by both ride leaders and a good pace.
Both groups started up road rage with the first group going Up Rooted and down Anger Management and the other group bypassing both and taking the less bumpy way to Cabbo Creek Climb. Meeting at the top of Cancer Tree we all set out along Cancer Tree to Serpent (or the S’s) and then onwards to Shadowlands and down into the Meadows. The first group went the whole way to Phoenix and back up Red Dog and back along New Zealand whereas the second group mingled their way around Handlebar and up TNT and then up Dawsent to New Zealand. Everyone finished off the ride heading down the new ‘Spareparts’ trail which is becoming quite popular as a tight twisty way back to the carpark. On average the course was 15km with 450m climbing.
There was still a bit of water in the creeks which I think makes it a more interesting ride as a little creek crossing or two mixes things up a bit. Also puts a bit of mud on your bike so you look cool in front of the roadies when you pull up at the cafe aftwards (but they know you’ll be delicately cleaning it off with a soft toothbrush later).
The only mechanical is Andrew having a flat after the gnar descent on Roadrage and no one fell off so excellent riding by everyone.
Coffee down at the Bli Bli bakery is always a favourite and a great way to wind up a good Parkies stint.
