About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Wamuran ride summary – 17/09/2016

[caption id="attachment_1654" align="alignright" width="300"] Map does not show the great coffee shop we found across the road near the mechanic shop[/caption] Cr Adrian Raedel at the Moreton Bay Regional Council asked us to help with a mountain bike ride from Wamuran for their Hinterland Cyclefest. 24 of us meet up at the park near Atwood Street and by 8am we were ready to go. We had a varied group of riders with different levels of skills and fitness, some roadies and even a couple of kids (whose infinite energy reserves were rather intimidating). There were 2 rides on offer with a 20km out and back on the old rail line and a 40km loop. Everyone chose the 20km so Terry took everyone as a group but Brad took some of the keener riders on some advanced "gnarly" diversions. We only had a couple of crashes (both on a particularly hairy descent that the gnarly group had a crack at) and there was a busted chain (quickly fixed...

18/09/2016 Wooroi Ride Summary

Even with the rain the night before there wasn't a puddle in sight at Wooroi which is known for its fast draining sandy soils. 25 of us gathered at the carpark and set of just after 7am with Toby taking the lead. Starting along Birdwing, hopping onto Glider (Indy) and then picking our way up Keelback (Spectator) so we can cruise along the ridge and down Snake. Then hopping off Snake onto Bloodwood and back onto Glider (Indy) and then down Froglet (Secrets) to the carpark. From here we went up Crosscut and down Milkmaid onto Glossy before finishing up with Turn 10 (no one braved the gap jump). All up about 23km on hero dirt. The rain had only just started again when we got back to the cars so the timing couldn't have been better. Finishing up with the usual coffee stop at Cafe Doonan. Wooroi is riding great after all the works - definitely worth a visit. ...

Moreton Bay Hinterland Cyclefest – MTB Rides

Coming up this Saturday is a mountain bike ride hosted by us for the Moreton Bay Regional Council as part of their Hinterland Cyclefest event. Starting from Wamuran (Google Maps Link) and riding along the old rail trail for a while before splitting into two groups - people looking for a longer ride can continue on into the Beerburrum Forests and the people after a easier and shorter ride can head back to the starting point. These rides are open to the public just like our community rides so expect to see some new faces and please help out where possible. There's a BBQ planned for lunchtime so if riding somewhere new isn't enough to get you out of bed on a Saturday morning then perhaps a free snag on a bit of white bread will lure you down. The routes: 40km intermediate: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/270240 20km basic: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/260328 For more information about the event checkout the Moreton Bay Hinterland Cyclefest Page . Parklands Ride Summary – 11/09/2016

This ride summary was brought to you by the new 2016 Bushrangers Members Survey. Check your emails and complete it today and the club President will wash your bike!* So our regular "Parkies" ride was a smaller affair due to the music festival, Cycle Epic and some people are just scared of mud I guess (not to mention the nasty, rooty, rocky, slippery, steepy mess that is the glorious Parklands!). [caption id="attachment_1593" align="alignright" width="300"] Sonja's new XC beast!![/caption] Sunday morning ended up being lovely and sunny and even a smidgen humid in places. While we got ready Alf shuffled about trying to decide whether he wore the bike shoes today or give us mortals a chance to keep up by wearing the crocs - unfortunately he chose the bike shoes. Suddenly all of us felt a 'presence' (for lack of a better word), we turned and saw Dave and Sonja driving towards us but there seemed to be a bright heavenly glow beaming out from...

Ewen Maddock Dam Community Ride Summary

With a group 22 strong we set off from the Ewen Maddock Dam carpark on the usual route that takes us around the dam to Landsborough and through Dularcha to Mooloolah. There was little mud about since SEQ Water have done a excellent job patching up the trails where water was collecting so it was smooth riding to Landsborough. Cutting though the township to the Dularcha 'rail trail' trail head re-grouping and then making our way along the wide trail through the tunnel and popping out at the township of Mooloolah. A few at this point decided to take their coffee break at Kenny's on Mooloolah while the rest of us made our way to Buck's Bakery in Landsborough. I guess having a choice of places to have our coffee is nothing but a good thing. After coffee it was off to a sneaky new trail that Terry and Al had explored earlier. This trail cuts across from the Ewen Maddock T1 trail...

Yandina/Cooloolabin Ride Summary

It was a glorious day to ride to Point Glorious. A ride featuring Jez from Venture Cycles, Mal from the Sunshine Coast Cycling Club, and Lester from the Noosa Trailblazers and a few other new faces as well – thanks for coming guys I hope you enjoyed yourself. Hello to past member Jason Daw who stopped for a quick chat as well.

Terry about to show us his breakdancing moves

All up there were 21 of us at the Cooloolabin Dam Trail Head (with 11 starting from Yandina to tackle the Bottle and Glass Road climb). To get a few more kms Gavin rode in from Buderim and Brad rode in from Mapleton.

Yandina was 5°C and that tends to make hopping out of the warm car and stripping down to a thin layer of lycra not very fun, but #cyclinglife and #yolo and all that. “Why were people wearing their lycra on the outside today?” I hear you ask.  Today was the day that Ben, Gavin, Lester and Murray were going to “groadie” (gravel roadie) it up to the Pt Glorious lookout to show us all what a gravel/CX bike can do! Although they had to tentatively negotiate the descents they made up for it with speed on the flats and hills.

Welcome to Venture Cycles!

[caption id="attachment_1437" align="alignright" width="300"] Click here for website[/caption] Hey there everyone, This Sunday's Yandina/Cooloolabin ride will be the first "Support your local bike shop" ride (it really needs a better name). Venture Cycles will be riding with us and we aren't sure what cool bike they will be bringing along so come along to find out and have a chat to the guys from Noosaville. This ride will be both a MTB ride and also a "gravel grinder" ride for people wanting to bring their CX or Gravel bikes.  I'm keen to see how these modified road bikes perform around Cooloolabin Dam. Remember there is two start points this ride. Yandina at 7.15am (grade 4 - 40km) or Cooloolabin dam at 8am (grade 3 - 20km). Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/venturecycle/...

Ringtail Forest Ride Summary and the Mud from Hell

Hello ‘rangers!

Well what a lovely day for riding! That bit of rain last night had me worried but we ended up having beautiful weather.

Twelve intrepid Bushrangers met up at the cricket grounds in Tewantin and we were prepped and eager to go at 7.30am sharp. Ride leader Ben gave a curt ride briefing (he used his big boy voice) and told us that this ride was not going to be 35km but actually closer to 45km! OMG!! I hear you say. But do you think any of us whinged about this extra workload?!…. well, yeah, there actually were some groans – but we sucked it up and started riding because WE LOVE TO RIDE! (bonus points for sneaking club motto in, aww yeah!)

Should I be Nervous?

With my regular flat white coffee in hand, I realize that I’m 15 minutes early to our meeting spot at the servo at Forest Glen. I’m waiting to meet Nicci Orr and her girls because the last time we rode, we made a pact to return the favour and show them around our trails one day. Well, today is the day and really that is what Go GIRLs is all about, making connections and opening up new ride experiences. Still, I’m a little nervous! Will my helpers turn up? Will anyone turn up? I’ve heard so often “I don’t do Parklands” and “I hate Parklands”. Maybe they’ve seen the You Tube video of the guy who crashes on the double (He was so excited that he got it all on Go Pro) or the recent photo of the girl who went to hospital with a big egg on her head, who was quoted to say “bloody Parklands”.

That reminds me, I’ve packed the first aid kit. I had to put rubber bands around it so it can fit in my backpack! Thanks to Ben and Julie, it has everything I need. Hopefully I won’t have to use it. But best to be prepared!

IMG_3839Reflecting on the day, I had nothing to fear, soon Nicci turned up with 5 bikes in the ute, pre carpark nerves were settled, (I assured them we would stop at anything tricky and talk them through it) and positions for the ride were carefully selected.

I had chosen my favourite challenge course but I was aware of bail out points if needed.

Ten started and finished, a good mix of experienced and fairly new to MTBing; a perfect combination to give lots of support and encouragement. Having local knowledge soon put the ladies at ease. We took our time to look at the more difficult parts, discussing techniques and sharing stories of what not to do; simple things like not looking where you don’t want to go, not staying seated the whole time and not being over the handle bars when descending. I was amazed at Nicci Orr’s girls. They had all committed to riding every Saturday with her and were well underway to transitioning from beginner to early intermediate skill level. We began with Uprooted and the Road Rage Climb which gave us plenty of practice of going over roots and small log rollovers. The girls all safely negotiated the Whoopsie Doos (double) and had fun with the mostly down hill Cancer Tree.

Parklands Ride Summary – 14/08/2016

Greetings ‘rangers!

So I have to write the ride summary today but I kinda wussed out after 6km so there will be some glaring holes which I will try to fill with my imagination.

We all rocked up between 6.30am to 7.15am because everyone is still confused about whether we are running summer or winter start times. For the record we are still running WINTER hours so the rides start at 7.30am but get there at 7.15am or earlier to get ready.

There was about 12 of us today with the usual guys, the lovely Susie and a couple of new visitors – welcome Dave from Trailblazers and new rider Ben. I hope you had a good ride!
