About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

New Trail Counters Installed in Parklands

[caption id="attachment_3628" align="alignright" width="300"] If you find one of these please report it to us.[/caption] Hi Folks, We now have three TRAFx trail counters (currently set up in Parklands) to gain insight into how often trails are used. These statistics are invaluable for trail maintenance, research, and project planning/funding. They're hidden from view but if you happen to find one please report it to us and we'll find a better hiding place. Additionally QPWS will be installing another set for their use and we'll be working with them by sharing statistics and identifying which trails need to be counted during which periods. We'll aim to publish the findings periodically and as part of our annual report. Please note that no identifying information is collected by these counters. No pictures, blood samples, signatures or retina scans will be taken, it just senses the bike rolling past. With these counters the club has now put together a fairly comprehensive set of trail care tools and services all with the support...

Parklands MTB Trails Project Update 18/07/2017

[caption id="attachment_3696" align="alignright" width="169"] The creek crossing along the beginners loop[/caption] Hi Folks, After a hiatus at the end of June things are once again progressing with Trailworx Matt on the excavator pushing on through with the beginners loop. There's now another 500m for our awesome trail crew to work on. A Trail care day is planned for this Saturday afternoon 22nd July 2017 at 1:00PM. Remember folks, we're spreading the dirt over the track, not pushing it off. This is to let nature do its thing over time and produce a good smooth surface. Also we need to spread the leaf litter along the immediate edges of the new trail to help shore it up. Highlights Nearly 50% of the beginners loop has been completed with sandstone placed at the crossings on the completed sections The existing trail going from the end of 'Rookie Road' back onto Road Rage has been fixed up so it's a nice cruise from the top of Rookie...

Trailcare day at Paul’s Place this Saturday (15/07/2017)

Hey Trailbuilders, The race is fast approaching and we need to get out to Paul's place beforehand and get the trails into shape. There'll be a fair bit of raking and scraping the trails clean but there will also be a bit of rockwork and cutting in a link track. We'll be there at 1pm for an arvo session so bring your rakes and rake hoes and feel free to bring your bike and have a spin around the trails before race day. The address is 32 Ruwoldts Road, Dulong - https://goo.gl/maps/r8juTVGGXg72 ...

Fuel Reduction Burns in Parklands Tomorrow

Hi Folks, Tomorrow (Tuesday 04/07) at Parklands the areas around Road Rage will be closed for the day while QPWS handle planned burns of that area. Please plan your ride to avoid this area and abide by any signage and directions. This means that the Road Rage trail and surrounding fire breaks will be closed for the day. If you have been in there recently you will have noticed that the various breaks have been redone. Thank you. Ben Johns Club President...

Mt Cotton – MTB Trails Draft Concept

Hi Folks, Another draft plan to comment on. The Redland Bay City Council are have concept for trail development within the Mt Cotton Eastern Escarpment Reserve. This is the area surrounding the Karingal Scout Camp which has it's own set of trails that have been used for races and other MTB events in the past. This is part of a larger vision to develop the trail networks surrounding Mount Cotton which also include Daisy Hill, Cornubia, and Bayview. The proposed trails are designated 'downhill' which will add to the mix of trails in the area. More information and a link to the survey can be found here: https://yoursay.redland.qld.gov.au/eastern-escarpment Note that you need to register an account to complete the survey.  ...

“Rookie Road” Wins

We received 50 votes and the clear winner was "Rookie Road". "Pigtails" came close but couldn't beat it (even after someone cheated and voted for it numerous times - tsk tsk!). [caption id="attachment_3583" align="aligncenter" width="703"] Clear winner is "Rookie Road"[/caption] QPWS have a naming policy (e.g. not potentially offensive, rude, gross, clear english etc). That's why the cool names like "4play", "entrails" and "Thrillz 2 Skillz" didn't get a shoe in. But we are getting new trails and a lot of help so I'm not complaining....

New Trails, New Faces and New BBQ! Today’s Trailcare Summary

The first stage of the Parklands MTB Trails Project is now complete with the opening of the new access track from the Radar Hill Road carpark through to the soon-to-be skills area.

After our sausage sizzle we grabbed some tools and headed into the new beginner’s trail (Stage 2). Matt from Trailworx has roughed in a good chunk of the new trail so today’s job was to go in with handtools to help shape it up and do the drains. Ben took a team to polish off the newly opened access trail, my team (aka “Alpha Attack Team Sharpened Rakehoe”) started from the end of the new work and worked backwards while the others started from the top and worked down so we met in the middle.

We made good progress with clearing drains, angling back the high edges and building some rollovers to get over some unavoidable big tree roots. Still a bit more work to do but it’s looking good.

We had some new faces today so a big hello to you and as always a massive thanks to everyone for all the help!

New Access Trail Opening with BBQ (Sat 03/06/2017 – 12pm)

[caption id="attachment_3352" align="alignright" width="217"] Freshly compacted and raked - you could eat off it![/caption] Hey everyone, The new access trail is pretty much finished and OK to ride so QPWS has given the go-ahead to open it up this weekend. So tomorrow (Saturday 12noon 03/06/2017) we'll have a sausage sizzle lunch at the old carpark area where the skills park will be (just ride the access trail to the end and we'll be there). So come check out the trail, have a snag and drink and let us know what you think. If you want to stick around for the trail care work afterwards then that's fine too. Remember, this trail needs a name so feel free to add your idea to the list ("Traily McTrailface" anyone?). Michael Johns Club Secretary ...

Impromptu Trail Work Update – Saturday 27/05/2017

My new boots got dirty :/

A few of us went in today for an impromptu trail-care to attack some problem drainage areas on the new access trail. In addition to creating/improving all the regular style drains we’ve tried a new style of drain to catch and divert water away from clay-heavy areas before they got waterlogged (I drew a diagram to help explain it). We put these hidden “T” drains throughout the trail and on that particularly boggy berm.

On top of the drainage work we also got the compactor over the new work and shaped the berms and trail that couldn’t be done last week due to things being too muddy.

Nice work Ben, Will and Rob!

Update (Monday 29/05/2017)
Matt and Eugene went in on Monday to check our work and made a few changes. They have added more rocks to the water crossings (so we don’t need to do it anymore – yay!). The big berm above the water crossing needs a drain on it as well a few soggy spots a little further on.

The new causeways that were put in on the slope heading down to the old carpark/skills area have been removed and the trail will need to be reshaped and cleaned up again.
