About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

2016 Single Speed World Championships

Many in the club are pleased that the 2016 Single Speed World Championships (SSWC) will be hosted in Woodend, Victoria between October 21 and 23. ‪#‎SSWC2016downunder‬ The town was literally named “wood end” because it is located where the Black Forest ends. At Woodend, prospectors en route to the goldfields in the 1850-60s could finally feel safe from bushrangers who used to hide in ambush in the black woods. No longer will these single speed prospectors feel safe from bushrangers as we will be drinking them under every table and ambushing them on the tracks. Who will be our Mad Dan Morgan? This years event presents a carnival (or carni-velo) theme with the expectation that participants will be dressing up as their favourite carnival character. Those with coulrophobia may wish to reconsider. At some point during the beer drinking there will be a mountain bike race where the only restrictions are a single gear and functional brakes. The race course takes you over the single tracks throughout the nearby Wombat State Forest. Registration for the...

Special Event: Parklands Dash Experiment – Sat 4th June 10AM

Hello 'rangers, We are cooking up some events to liven up our ride calendar. Ben "El Presidente" has got some good things underway but in the meantime I want to put on an event at Parklands on Saturday 4th June at 10am. Now this event isn't your traditional circuit/lap race. It will require speed, strategy and quick decision making so I'm hoping it will equalise the field a bit (and no, it's not a poker run ride - although that's a good idea for another event). I'll send more details later but for now here is what I can say: There is no charge - for now this is a fun, informal experiment to see if it works We'll put on a BBQ (and we may even cook some food on it) Riders will need to be members (for the insurance) Awesome prizes!!* *Prize pool will consist of the following: a certificate of bragging rights (valid until the next event - terms and conditions apply) a big metaphorical trophy of glory (to hold over your head...

Why Sunshine Coast MTB clubs need the SCTA and why they need us

After a really positive meeting on Saturday I wanted to write this letter to start a conversation across all clubs and riders about getting world class trails on the Sunshine coast and helping the SCTA to do it. Please share it around to the other clubs and riders and let's start talking about how it can be done right and get all the information out there. Thanks, Michael Johns [google-drive-embed url="https://drive.google.com/a/bushrangers.org/file/d/0B2-dM9NFP78vNXFXOHAwWjQ3aGM/preview?usp=drivesdk" title="WhyweneedtheSunshineCoastTrailsAllianceSCTA.pdf" icon="https://ssl.gstatic.com/docs/doclist/images/icon_12_pdf_list.png" width="100%" height="400" style="embed"]...

2016 Wide Bay MTB Race Series

Fast approaching with the first race of the series on the 29th of May at Bundaberg - Cordalba (Promisedland Trails) - the Wide Bay Cross Country Endurance race series entails three races in Bundaberg, Fraser Coast (Toogoom, 3rd of July) and Gympie (Corella, 21st August). A few of us are showing interest in attending at least one of these races and I'm pretty keen to do all three this year. It would be great to see us support our neighbour clubs in the north and keep this series alive. If you would like to test these trails before signing up don't forget that we're having a camping trip up that way this weekend and will be riding Promisedland and Toogoom trails. Heart Week Expo Summary

On Saturday (30th April 2016) the Sunshine Coast Council hosted a Heart Week Expo at the Lake Kawana Community Centre. We were invited to provide an avenue for people to take on a more active lifestyle to ward off potential heart related illness. Realistically we were more of a side exhibit however we did garner good interest from the community and we emphasized that we were promoting the trail networks as much as the mountain biking. We let people know about the great walking and mountain biking trails around the area and encouraged people to go and see for themselves. Keen riders were taking turns on the mobile pump track that Kurt from the council organised and while it was looking a bit wet and neglected at the start it quickly became popular once the track dried out. I even loaned my bike to a few kids that wanted a turn (they understandably didn't want Michael's fatbike). The track was provided by a local company so...

QLD CX – HeliDOOM Ride

A few of us went out to a ride hosted by Queensland Cyclocross out at Helidon, QLD. It was a 'social' ride that became a gravel endurance race covering 60km and 1200m elevation. Those guys just hammer out the kilometres. Little did they know that they had some of our best riders in their midst and those riders held their own against the cyclocross thoroughbreds. It was a good route climbing up though Murphy's Creek to the beautiful Gus Beutel lookout in Palmtree, QLD. After a hour rest we descended down the other side completing the loop back to Helidon. It was mix of around 70% gravel and the rest road. The road leading to the lookout was a strange sticky mud that caused people to think there was something wrong with their bikes - it was like riding on contact glue. The down hill roads were fun but corrugations made things very jittery and slightly scary as they could shift you over...

Go G.I.R.L. Ride with boys on the side!

Saturday saw over 20 participants attend the Daisy Hill (away from home) ride. Most of the regular Go G.I.R.L. (Get Into Riding Ladies) team were there; Susie (moi), Carol, Tania, Helen, Kerry & Pam. Sonja gave me a sick note from her mother, so she was excused and averted a detention. We missed the squeals of Di, so Carol had to stand in and Yah Hoo on the down hill sections. The boys (our young at heart men) were joined by two very capable young riders, (sons of Lauree Aves), Connor and Cooper, as well as, Liam who was 9 and completed an impressive 30+km “boys on the side” ride. The boys (the real boys) at first didn't leave our side, till they were certain we could all ride and we were in good hands with Megan Tinks, a Brisbane MTB RAT who kindly volunteered her time to show us around her trails. Thanks Lauree Aves for organising this! We again welcomed Annick a local rider, who we have lined up to be...
