About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Reminder: 2017 Annual Membership Survey

Hi Folks, So far a third of you have completed the membership survey - this is fantastic and thank you. Who'd have guessed the president has been voted the best looking committee member. HOWEVER it would be awesome if we could get everyone to complete it as then it would be truly representative. So if you haven't filled out the survey yet, please do so before the 1st of December, 5PM (that's 2 weeks away). It doesn't matter if you're a new member or haven't been along on a ride - your input is always appreciated. Don't forget there's a random prize draw for those who completed the survey and provided their details. If you haven't received the survey link or have deleted the email please let us know by emailing info@bushrangers.org or contacting us through social media or in person during a ride. Movember 10000km Challenge UPDATE

It's the mid-way point so I've just sat down with my Casio electric Abacus-o-matic and tallied up the total kilometres! The rider with the most kilometres is Pete Bigaila. He is punching out over 600km each week. He is off to the 9-hour GBOMB race at Grafton this weekend so good luck Pete! Graham Reeks is regularly commuting 60km to and from work so his weekly kilometres are up to over 200+ a week (and that's with a big air resisting moustache on the handlebars). Graham is also our biggest fundraiser with $480 donated to Movember, nice work! Paul Vandeleur had a massive ride in the first week but took it easy the 2nd week to prepare for the Singlespeed World Champs in NZ. Him and Royce have already left to participate in the shinanaghans over in Rotorua. Let us know how it goes guys. Ewen Maddock Community Ride Summary 05/11/2017

Hey there Bushies,

Sorry about the delay in the ride summary but I just keep getting distracted by my beautiful moustache. It’s just so hard to type and twirl my tips at the same time.

So last Sunday’s Community ride went anti-clockwise this time so we headed along the pavement to the Mooloolah township and then through the old railway tunnel in Dularcha national park and had mid-ride coffees at Landsborough. The more energetic riders shot off and did some of the nasty hills in Dularcha and met us at Landsborough afterwards. Some of the beginner riders then came back through the dam trails with me while the others went on to do Ferny Forest.

The group got split up in Mooloolah as a train went through. As patience isn’t one of my virtues but showing off is, Ben and I employed some Cyclocross (CX) skills and threw our bikes over our shoulders and ran up and over the pedestrian bridge. I regretted this decision by about the 5th step up – heavy fat-bikes are not for running with!

Bike Moustache – increases both air resistance AND awesomeness!

Similar to the recent Cooroy ride we stopped for coffee at a central spot so everyone could wander off and forage for their coffees/cakes from any of the nearby cafes and bakeries. With the larger rider groups we get now (this ride had 42 of us) this concept works out good and we end up supporting a lot more local businesses too.

Graham showed up with the first order of his bespoke “bike moustaches” for us. I got a sexy orange one to match my wheels (because that’s important). Thanks Graham! If you want one you just have to donate $10 to Graham’s Movember page and he’ll whip you one up.

Being such a big group and trying to cater for everyone’s tastes does make things a bit hectic but big thanks to all our seasoned members who keep an eye out for everyone and made sure no-one gets hurt and lost. Thanks for coming everyone and a big hello to new riders Teena and Aden, Nick, Tanya and Patrick and anyone else I missed.

Movember 10000km Challenge Week 1 update: 24 riders, $1040 raised, 2880km ridden. Come join us here (you don’t need to grow a Mo).

See you at Parklands!

Bushranger Race Results – Dingo Duo, Shimano Enduro and CycleEpic

So I was talking to Chad on Sunday's ride and he told me about the fun he had at the Shimano Enduro Series at Garapine. So I got to thinking that I should have a look through the results lists of some recent races to see if I recognised any names and lo and behold there were heaps! At last weekend's Dingo Duo race at Hidden Vale our Matthew Klibbe and Eugene Craddock were in the duathon with a 5km trail run, a 40km MTB ride and then another 5km trail run. Matt got 1st and Eugene got 3rd. Brilliant work guys! More info <here> [gallery columns="2" size="medium" ids="4466,4474"] At the recent Shimano Enduro Series at Garapine we had current members, past members and friends Chad Power, Antony Boyd, Kaiden Carter and Levi Van Pan Huis all hammer down the multiple trails on what was a disgustingly hot day. Chad did well with a 6th in his category despite having a busted seat, saggy...

Parklands MTB Trails Project Update 03/11/2017

Black track as seen on Trail Forks

Black track as seen on Trail Forks

Rain and some resource constraints have hindered progress on the new trails going into the Parklands Conservation Park but we’re progressing once again with Trailworx bringing out the big guns with a 5t excavator flanked by two smaller ones to get things back on track.

The downpour we had the other week highlighted various drainage issues along the beginners loop that the last trail care session crew started fixing (thanks guys!). Since then a few of us have been scraping flat the tyre ruts and reworking the drainage but there’s still lots to do, particularly the rutted berms.

Plan is to get a bunch of the sandstone rocks cut and transported to each location needing rock armouring – drainage dips and the bridge ramps. Road base capping will be spread over the lower sections of the beginners loop to make them more resilient to ruts and generally harder wearing.

Upcoming features of the black trail, apart from the usual berms and rollers, are natural drops, a natural rock garden, a S shaped berm with a jump transition in the middle and some big rollers at the end so you can send it for the spectators.

The black trail will need close attention to detail. Trailworx will point out what’s left to be do, the trick is to not undo anything they have set up as that will either cause them to revisit or will cause premature trail degradation.

Next up will be the ‘blue’ trail, then the skills area. Then the remediation (of sections) of existing trails such as Road Rage and Anger Management. Once those are finished and the grants acquitted the new QLD MTB Strategy will hopefully be ready for us to review and align our trail strategy against – then we’ll start the cycle again by doing up detailed plans, getting quotes, applying for grants, and if successful, build more trails.

So please keep an eye on the calendar for upcoming trail care days – they’ll be coming along fast during the next 3 – 4 months.

Don’t forget that you can check out Trail Forks for updates on trail conditions and additions and our Trail Care page for the rest.

2017 Annual Membership Survey

Hi Folks, By now you will have received an email (or two, because one got caught in the interwebs for a day, sorry!). This email has a link to our 2017 membership survey for you to complete. The data we have received already has been particularly interesting so please keep it coming! This survey is the most important thing we ask you to do because it helps the current and future committees to make informed decisions that represent the wishes of the membership. The survey will be closed on the 1st December, 5PM. You can expect questions in the following categories: What trails do you like? What rides/events do you you enjoy? Ride start times Club Systems Fund Raising Trail Development General Feedback Additionally there's going to be a random prize draw afterwards as a bit of an added incentive to complete the survey. Please encourage your fellow members to complete the survey and if you haven't received the survey email, please let us know and...
