About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Sunshine Coast Bike Week

Coming up shortly is the annual Sunshine Coast Bike Week beginning September 24th and finishing October 2nd. There are a number of different rides and events catering for all ages and abilities. Social pathway rides, children's courses and commuter cycling training. The Cyclefest will be hosting races including the king of the mountain ride (Palmwoods Montville Rd) and the 100km Grand Fondo. We have our usual calendar rides advertised as part of the cycle week activities so expect to see a few new faces. If you register for any of the events/rides then you go in the draw to win some bike shop vouchers. Also don't forget that Ride2Work Day is on Wednesday October 12th and I expect our Strava club to be full of commutes that day. There will be complimentary breakfasts and coffee at the following locations (you have to ride there!): Cotton Tree Park, Cotton Tree Esplanade Bill Venardos Park, Omrah Avenue Caloundra Park opposite Sunshine Coast University Hospital along Braggs Street...

Wamuran ride summary – 17/09/2016

[caption id="attachment_1654" align="alignright" width="300"] Map does not show the great coffee shop we found across the road near the mechanic shop[/caption] Cr Adrian Raedel at the Moreton Bay Regional Council asked us to help with a mountain bike ride from Wamuran for their Hinterland Cyclefest. 24 of us meet up at the park near Atwood Street and by 8am we were ready to go. We had a varied group of riders with different levels of skills and fitness, some roadies and even a couple of kids (whose infinite energy reserves were rather intimidating). There were 2 rides on offer with a 20km out and back on the old rail line and a 40km loop. Everyone chose the 20km so Terry took everyone as a group but Brad took some of the keener riders on some advanced "gnarly" diversions. We only had a couple of crashes (both on a particularly hairy descent that the gnarly group had a crack at) and there was a busted chain (quickly fixed...

Moreton Bay Hinterland Cyclefest – MTB Rides

Coming up this Saturday is a mountain bike ride hosted by us for the Moreton Bay Regional Council as part of their Hinterland Cyclefest event. Starting from Wamuran (Google Maps Link) and riding along the old rail trail for a while before splitting into two groups - people looking for a longer ride can continue on into the Beerburrum Forests and the people after a easier and shorter ride can head back to the starting point. These rides are open to the public just like our community rides so expect to see some new faces and please help out where possible. There's a BBQ planned for lunchtime so if riding somewhere new isn't enough to get you out of bed on a Saturday morning then perhaps a free snag on a bit of white bread will lure you down. Supporting the Local Bike Shops Initiative

We believe that local bike clubs are in a great position to help support local bike shops. Our members can give the shops their custom and endorsements and then members get advice, support and a place to get that small bolt that you snapped the day before a race. We had to think of a way to support all the shops. A way that was also easy to manage and didn't alienate anyone. So the plan is that we simply invite a bike shop to come ride with us each month (probably the Parklands or the social ride). So in doing this we get to meet the bike shops, ask them questions and ogle/drool over the new bikes. The bike shops get to meet us, tell us any industry news and show us their wares in action. We are hoping that this will help build a strong network within the local cycling community which will help in future events such as races, trail advocacy, grant applications and promoting...

Moreton Bay Hinterland CycleFest – MTB Event

Next month we'll be helping out the Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) with their Hinterland CycleFest event by leading two mountain bike rides starting from the township of Wamuran. A short, easy, route will take us along the old railway route north of Wamuran and back totalling around 25km and not a lot of climbing. An alternative, longer, route will take us further into the Beerburrum State Forestry area and will have a bit of everything and will be around 45km (this route is to be confirmed). The rides will start at 8am, Saturday the 17th of September and will start/end at Nasho's Park, Atwood Street, Warmuran QLD. We'll be back in time for a free BBQ lunch provided by the MBRC. The club calendar will be updated with the details next week. Special thanks goes to Brad, Sonja and Terry for helping with the organisation, route selection and offering to lead the rides. Really appreciated guys especially when it was a last minute request as the council...

Sunshine Coast Bike Week – Sep 24th to Oct 2nd

Hi Folks, The Sunshine Coast Bike Week is coming up in a few months and like last year we're putting up our Mapleton Community Ride on the 2nd of October as an event. The Sunshine Coast Regional Council will kindly promote our ride along with many other cycling related activities that will be happening during those 9 days.. The Sunshine Coast CycleFest will be the premier event on the 24/25th September which will present a number of races and rides (on road) and the CycleVillage Markets at Cotton Tree park. What is Bike Week? The major aim of the week is to simply encourage people of all ages and cycling abilities to get out on their bikes and to learn more about cycling. We hope to achieve this by not only involving people in planned council activities, but in events offered by other cycling related businesses and groups as well. Hope to see you out there....

Nambour Together Festival Summary

While not mountain bike specific, or cycling for that matter, the Nambour Together mini-festival did provide us a presence in the local community of Nambour.  Michael, Julie and I talked to a few interested people about what the club is about, a few of our initiatives such as the Parklands MTB Trail Project and about the rides we do - the usual things. The highlight for me was a couple of actual clowns took interest in Michael's fat bike validating my opinion that it's a clown bike. Next up - the Sunshine Coast CycleFest....
