About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

GoGIRL Glasshouse Mountains Ride Summary – 29/04/2017

Autumn is finally here and we had perfect riding conditions for our latest goGIRL ride. Yahoo! Last month was cancelled due to wet conditions formed by cyclone Debbie so we were keen to follow Kerrie out of the Glasshouse Sports ground and along the fire trail into the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains area.

First we rode beside Steve Erwin Way to Matthew Flinders Rest Area, then along Farm Track to visit Jack. After Smashing the Rocks where all the girls expertly rode uphill, we gasped at the majestic views, left the Caves and Marshes and had a snack on a log. The girls dared me to ride it. It was over a metre high but it had no good exit strategy. A heli ride out of there would have made a good story but I decided to made a detour through Avocado farm instead. After zipping Downhill Fireroad, we got a view of Tibbro before crossing the creek with its own name. Climbing up the rock slabs was fun, then back past Mathew Flinders, Coonowrin Creek and under the M1, safely back to the carpark. The Boys were back too. (We never make a time but mostly they always know when we are finished). I wonder if you hear chatter and laughter on their ride as well. Finally it’s time to swap stories as we head to the local Glasshouse bakery to enjoy each other’s company as well as bakery treats, wraps, frappes and well earned coffee.

Nasty Sticks and Pretty Pics – Mapleton Club Ride Summary – 23/04/2017

Q: What’s brown and sticky?
A: A stick!

That classic primary school joke leads us into the theme of Sunday’s ride. Sticks! Sticks everywhere! Sticks on the trail – sticks in wheels and derailleurs – sticks in my thigh. The li’l bastards were everywhere! But despite the constant assault from these gravity challenged branches the ride was actually a lot of fun.

So sixteen of us were ready to go at the Mapleton lily pond and the plan was to head to the Oaky Creek lookout through the Linda Garret Park fire breaks. Then on the way back we would do the flow’y Turpentine track (aka the Magic mile). Linda Garret park was a little damp with a few trees down but it was still great to ride as it’s so beautiful in there.

Craig’s snapped crank arm (photo taken with a potato it seems).

We met up at the new parking area where the motorbikes can load/unload and then broke up into two groups. A fast group lead by Nick shot off towards the lookout with the rest of us travelling a bit slower behind. Most of us made it to the lookout but poor Craig snapped his crank arm (no joke!) at the halfway point and had to head back.

The lookout was spectacular as always, with the beautiful weather we could see for miles. After a bite to eat and chat (where Will accidentally exposed his advanced knowledge of The Transformers cartoons) we set off back towards the Day Use area and the Magic Mile.

A few of us were running out of batteries so we only did half the Magic Mile and broke off early and headed back to the cars and coffee. The others completed the whole trail then grunted and groaned their way back up the Mapleton Forest road.

Pomona-Cooran Club Ride Summary – 16/04/2017

Greetings everyone,

Toby and Chad lost in a deep conversation about plasterboard.

So the club ride on Sunday was a smaller affair than normal with a lot of members doing the family thing or camping at Hiddenvale. I was going to have to lead this ride due to President Ben recently bouncing down the Bottle ‘n’ Glass trail on his face. But luckily for everyone Toby and Chad came along and led instead because quite frankly I navigate as well as a bird flies a plane.

So there was Di and Shelly on this ride as well as myself, Toby, Chad, Martin, Steve and guest rider Mark. I hope you all had a good ride.

We started at Pomona and rode through the Tuchekoi National Park before crossing Jampot Road into Furgusons Road. We followed the horse trail up that challenging climb and then dropped into the cool single-tracks that follow Jampot Creek Road. We then cut across the bitumen and followed trail 5 into Cooran.

Parklands Ride Summary – 09/04/2017

Parklands was filled with Bushrangers on Sunday morning, as we had the normal club ride happening as well as a rookie ride for our beginner riders.

Sunday was also a very special day because not only was the weather sublime but it was also the official “Cherish an Antique Day” and “Name Yourself Day”. I’m a bit upset because if I had known earlier then I would’ve given Terry and Alf a big hug and called myself Max Power. But next Sunday is “Eggs Benedict Day” or “Wear Your Pyjamas to Work Day” so FYI everyone!

Big hello to our regular and new members and welcome to all of our guests for the day. I hope you all had a good ride.

Signing off,

Max Power!!
Club Secretary

Yandina/Cooloolabin Ride Summary – 26/03/2017

I like this ride because I can sleep in as it’s only 15 minutes drive away. I guess I could save a dolphin and ride to the meeting point…

Now this ride is split between two meeting points because the Bottle and Glass Road is a hefty climb and not everyone likes to start their day on the side of a dirt road vomiting up their breakfast due to over-exertion. However if this sounds like your kind of thing then make sure you come along to our Bottle’n’Glass Hill Climb race in Easter! That said quite a few riders chose to start in Yandina and brave the large climb to meet with the other group near the Cooloolabin Dam trail head.

Once the two groups had merged we started along the Cooloolabin Dam single-track that goes along the dam wall and follows the shoreline and eventually finishes in the day use area near the spillway. The recent rains had caused a bit of debris along the track but nothing that couldn’t be easily moved or ridden over.  This trail brings nice water views, beautiful little thickets of trees to ride through and nice loamy soils with the occasional obstacle to tackle.

This week’s predicted rain will hopefully give Cooloolabin dam a good top-up

Parklands Night Ride Summary 15/03/2017

Yesterday’s downpour and the prediction of more today almost caused tonight’s ride to be cancelled. But the rain held off through the day so four of us HARDCORE! (or stupid?) riders decided it was good to go. Chad, Greg, Ben and myself were ready and raring at Radar Hill carpark by 6pm. Chad took the lead and took us up Ho-chi-ho, we then climbed the fire road to the top gate and then into Top track.

Now Top track is a black diamond trail and I’ve found in the past it sort of induces swearing and vomit from me. So I wondered to myself who would ride along that in the dark while its wet? Well it seems the four of us would tonight because as mentioned before we were HARDCORE!… or stupid. But we made it through unscathed and then dropped into Cancer Tree.

Parklands Ride Summary 12/03/2017

I sprang out of bed with the epiphany that our club rides have been lacking in nasty hills lately.  So I thought what better place to catch up on this elevation shortage than Parklands, our ride location for last Sunday.

Arriving early at the Atkinson Road West entrance of Parklands I passed Chad grinding up the hill to meet up with Andrew for a few sneaky runs on Phoenix before the group ride started at 7am. Be like Chad, embrace the climbs.

Ewan Maddock Dam Ride Summary – 05/03/2017

Hello ‘rangers!

The weather was a bit dismal yesterday morning so I was expecting a low turnout at yesterday’s ride but we ended up with 25 people! We had Helen, Wayne, Julie and Ian from CORCA show up as well as new riders Em, Jason and Phil come along (I hope I got Phil’s name right). Pete Bigaila (the recently published megastar) was like, only a metre away from me. I swear I almost wet myself. If I had had a felt pen I would’ve asked him to sign my boobs or something and not bath ever again.

We rode through the dam trails with the idea we can take the sneaky shortcut to Ferny Forest but it ended up being way too boggy so we had to continue through to Landsborough then we rode back to Ferny Forest along Steve Irwin way. Ian and Julie dropped off here and had their coffee break at Landsborough. You did good Julie – 15km through loose trails at a rather brisk pace – nice work!

Brewhaha Coffee van at Ferny Forest!

Most of us stopped at Ferny Forest for coffee and a chat at the BrewHaha coffee van. A few of the others went off and did a lap of Ferny Forest before their coffee. This was where Chad got pretty dirty when he had a crash (yes, another one) while trying to keep up with Paul and Pete. I had a go at Graham’s Focus e-bike which was pretty cool (although the bike’s computer kept calling me Graham).

GoGIRL Time to Reflect

With the AGM quickly advancing next month, it is time to reflect on our aims and achievements of GoG.I.R.L. (Get Into Riding Ladies).

The key questions are:

  1. Are we getting more ladies into riding?
  2. Do they feel supported riding together?
  3. Are we offering opportunities to grow?

From the squeals and numbers of ladies that turned up to our February GoGIRL  ride in Sugar Bag last Saturday. The answer is a big YES! YES! YES!

Wooroi Ride Summary – 26/02/2016

Hey everyone,

OK, I promise not to do any poetry about Wooroi today (we had a person unsubscribe from the newsletter after that last Wooroi summary so I’m taking the hint and keeping it low brow!).

The day was perfect for a ride and we coagulated in the carpark to wait for the ride briefing and admire the new steeds that had entered our horde.  Murray had bought along his highly anticipated turquoise Yeti SB4.5 with the colour-coded wheels and golden drivetrain. Did you know that the colour turquoise is a “color that alleviates feelings of loneliness but relates to being either over-emotional or non-emotional, lacking communication skills, being unreliable and deceptive”. So if I was being an aloof twat to anyone today it was Murray’s bikes fault.

The other new bike was Rod’s new Canyon hardtail. This thing looked great but with it’s unbelievably light weight it suspiciously smacks of some sort of anti-gravity doping or even just some run of the mill inter-dimensional weight transference magic.
