About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

15/05/16 Glasshouse Lookout Club Ride Summary

Hello all, [caption id="attachment_848" align="alignright" width="170"] He who shall remain nameless, though the orange boots are a bit of a give away[/caption] Sunday’s club ride was attended by approx. 20 riders, one of them me, having decided only the previous night to tag along, due to an Facebook prompt from our ride leader (John) stating that the ride would not be “too” hard. We all showed up in Peachester, for what I'm going to call the first cold start of the year. A few jumpers were visible as we set off, however we and the day quickly warmed up nicely. From the off we eventually arrived at the telephone lines that led us to our first lookout for the day. From here we then did some “exploratory” single track which due to the nature of the surface and obstacles presented, I'm terming “pine cones at the beach”. We eventually spat back out onto the main telephone line towards the Glasshouse Mountains lookout. One rider...

Special Event Update: Parklands Dash Experiment – Sat 4th June 10AM

Hello Bushrangers, The Parklands Dash experiment is getting closer (10am, Sat 4th June 2016) so here is a bit more information for you. 1. It isn’t a race After talking to MTBA about insurance and the different memberships we all have (e.g. race or recreation) this experiment will definitely not be a “race”. So there will be no official timing and no prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. - apart from bragging rights and glory of course. So it’s more of a fun day where you can challenge yourself, have a good ride, brag and get some food afterwards. 2. Parking and staging area Current plan is to start the ride at the end of Radar Hill Road, up towards the quarry where the bitumen stops. This will keep the main carpark free for other park users (we can park along the side of Radar Hill road). Starting the ride here gives us that stretch of dirt road to start and finish the ride in spectacular...

08/05/2016 – Parklands Club Ride Summary

We had a smaller group today because of the camping trip this weekend but weather was great and the trails were good. Chad took Alf, Andrew, Chris, Will, Graham, Steve and Neil out from the Radar Hill carpark, along Road Rage, over to Red Dog then back around to Lower NZ and Ho Chi Ho. Alf copped a catastrophic sidewall tear on those jagged rocks on top of Road Rage but then drove home, replaced the tyre and came back to finish the ride. That is dedication! Graham, Steve and Neil peeled off from the group and went a different route so I hope you guys had a good ride. I took Greg the rookie out along the novice track and gave him a taste of mountain biking and Parklands. He did really well and I hope I didn't bamboozle him too much with all the advice. It's amazing how much you need to think about when you ride, only really realise it when...

Special Event: Parklands Dash Experiment – Sat 4th June 10AM

Hello 'rangers, We are cooking up some events to liven up our ride calendar. Ben "El Presidente" has got some good things underway but in the meantime I want to put on an event at Parklands on Saturday 4th June at 10am. Now this event isn't your traditional circuit/lap race. It will require speed, strategy and quick decision making so I'm hoping it will equalise the field a bit (and no, it's not a poker run ride - although that's a good idea for another event). I'll send more details later but for now here is what I can say: There is no charge - for now this is a fun, informal experiment to see if it works We'll put on a BBQ (and we may even cook some food on it) Riders will need to be members (for the insurance) Awesome prizes!!* *Prize pool will consist of the following: a certificate of bragging rights (valid until the next event - terms and conditions apply) a big metaphorical trophy of glory (to hold over your head...

QLD CX – HeliDOOM Ride

A few of us went out to a ride hosted by Queensland Cyclocross out at Helidon, QLD. It was a 'social' ride that became a gravel endurance race covering 60km and 1200m elevation. Those guys just hammer out the kilometres. Little did they know that they had some of our best riders in their midst and those riders held their own against the cyclocross thoroughbreds. It was a good route climbing up though Murphy's Creek to the beautiful Gus Beutel lookout in Palmtree, QLD. After a hour rest we descended down the other side completing the loop back to Helidon. It was mix of around 70% gravel and the rest road. The road leading to the lookout was a strange sticky mud that caused people to think there was something wrong with their bikes - it was like riding on contact glue. The down hill roads were fun but corrugations made things very jittery and slightly scary as they could shift you over...

Go G.I.R.L. Ride with boys on the side!

Saturday saw over 20 participants attend the Daisy Hill (away from home) ride. Most of the regular Go G.I.R.L. (Get Into Riding Ladies) team were there; Susie (moi), Carol, Tania, Helen, Kerry & Pam. Sonja gave me a sick note from her mother, so she was excused and averted a detention. We missed the squeals of Di, so Carol had to stand in and Yah Hoo on the down hill sections. The boys (our young at heart men) were joined by two very capable young riders, (sons of Lauree Aves), Connor and Cooper, as well as, Liam who was 9 and completed an impressive 30+km “boys on the side” ride. The boys (the real boys) at first didn't leave our side, till they were certain we could all ride and we were in good hands with Megan Tinks, a Brisbane MTB RAT who kindly volunteered her time to show us around her trails. Thanks Lauree Aves for organising this! We again welcomed Annick a local rider, who we have lined up to be...

Club Roadtrip – Toogoom & Promisedland Trails – 7th/8th May

Since the last trip was so good we're doing it again!  DAY 1 (Saturday 07/05/16) Drive north from Sunshine Coast for 2 hours 40 minutes to Childers where everyone meets at the Childers Woolworths carpark (https://goo.gl/maps/tCSzhDojsv72) around 10:00am (so you'll be wanting to leave the Sunshine Coast by around 7:00am to account for roadworks and Ben's bongo van etc). Then we all drive a further 20 minutes to the Promisedland MTB Park, Cordalba and we ride 2-3 hours. We leave Promisedland and drive 45 minutes to Hillcrest Caravan Park, Burrum Heads.  Where we bunker down for the night and eat, drink and be merry. DAY 2 (Sunday 08/05/16) We drive 17 mins to Toogoom MTB Park and ride for 2-3 hours. Then everyone has a safe 2.5hr drive back to the Sunshine Coast - happy days!! 24/04/2016 – Pomona to Lake Macdonald Ride Summary

Hello 'rangers (pronounced "range-er" not "rang-er" FYI), Today's ride was 37km of new and old trails from Pomona to Lake Macdonald and back again. A big thanks to Terry for leading the ride and showing us what he has found on his explorations. There was some real standout pieces of track today. Pete and Toby also did the bonus 6km towards the end but the rest of us just wanted to get coffee by that point (or get home to watch the XC Mountain Bike World Cup at 11am) . Terry kept us at a good pace today with fewer stops and good use of "corner-men" and a "tail-end charlie" so no one got lost or left behind and the ride was done and dusted by around 10am. Had a few spills today with poor Di copping a nasty cut on her leg and having to get a lift back to car. Nothing too serious but still needs to get checked out and cleaned at the Hospital...
