About Our Club

Our club was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 1995 when mountain biking (MTB) in Australia was in its infancy. Since then the club and the sport have gained popularity through advocacy and participation. The Bushrangers MTB Club is a volunteer based organisation run by enthusiasts, for the benefit of promoting and supporting mountain biking across the region.

We do regular rides all over Sunshine Coast and SEQ from Cooloola to Brisbane, in national parks, state forestries and council parks. Check out this website for more information on events, news, and for places to ride.

Pomona to Kin Kin Ride Summary 27/11/2016

hill (/hɪl/) - noun 1. a naturally raised area of land, not as high or craggy as a mountain. thoroughly enjoyed by mountain bikers. With over 1000m of climbing over a relatively short 40km the theme for Sunday's ride was HILLS. Glorious uninterrupted climbing for miles! Climbing over dirt and gravel, climbing over grass, climbing over rocks, trees, small animals! We climbed everything. Nick, one of our resident single speed advocates, must have planned for all this ascending and rocked up on a shiny new climbing weapon - a Specialized Epic FSR in Teal/Rocket Red livery. He still rode it like a single speed and kept running out of the little grinding gears. Twelve brave riders began the climb up 'Trail 5' to Cooran with a sneaky diversion along some hidden single track and over a slippery log. We migrated onto the notorious 'Trail 3' which hosted the bulk of the delicious hills including the "mothar" which one can barely walk up let alone keep the...

Pomona – Cooran Ride Summary 20/11/2016

Howdy y'all, "Why is he speaking like he is from the country?" I hear you ask. Well I thought I'd theme things up a bit because Sunday's ride was out in the deep wild west territories that is Pomona and Cooran.  So let's go herd dem dere cattle and shoot doze pesky varmints YEEE HAAA!! OK fine, that's a big stretch but I'm struggling this morning. So apparently last week I may have used the ride summary to promote my personal E-bike agenda and my hatred of dark chocolate. This is what happens when you forget to take photos and you have to fill the space with words. But I shall "try" to tone back my stating the obvious and just stick to the events of the rides. 15 of us met up at Pomona and we were ready to go at 7am (big hello to Justin from Giant who joined in on his cool looking single speed). We needed a ride leader so I put it to the...

06/11/2016 Ewen Maddock Dam Community Ride Summary

Sunny skies greeted us at the ‘dam this morning with a car park full of eager MTBers wanting to head out and harvest the local KOMs and QOMs (well done Rod and Shelley!). In my case I was more interested in harvesting a coffee from Buck’s Bakery after my lazy week long Brisbane trip but I digress. The turn out was huge with around 40 riders starting in two groups – the fasties and the slowies (nothing wrong with smelling the roses!). Also a welcome to the Forsythe family who tagged along regardless of a tough Mapleton ride yesterday, John, and Jason.

Michael pushed the fasties off first so the rest of us could take our time heading over to Landsborough. They took on Rosies Circuit straight off before meeting us at the bakery for morning tea. After that the slowies went off towards Mooloolah via the old spooky tunnel and the rest did a lap of Ferny Forest before returning to the cars. The timing of both groups was pretty good with both meet ups arriving at pretty much the same time.

Thanks goes to Paul for leading the fast group and to me for leading the slow group.

Our Ewen Maddock community rides is always a popular one and a great way to get into mountain biking as it’s got a bit of everything, lots of different routes to take and very low to moderate difficulties. If you can ride all the hills around Ewen Maddock Dam then you can progress onto Parklands.

Sunsets and Shoulder Injuries – Ferny Forest Night Ride Summary (19/10/2016)

So last Wednesday's night ride was a particularly adventurous one that was filled with an amazing sunset, a heap of mosquitos and unfortunately a call to the ambulance. [caption id="attachment_1875" align="alignright" width="300"] Almost ride off time![/caption] At 7pm we had 8 riders ready to ride at the Ferny Forest carpark (across the road from the Big Kart track on Steve Irwin way). In the future we will probably start the ride up towards the real estate agent carpark where the nearby street lights make things easier. The mozzies were bad but a bit of repellant helped and once you got moving it was fine. We rode at a brisk pace trying to get warmed up but of course we had to stop on the shore of the dam to get some pics of the sunset as it was pretty spectacular that night. So riding at night obviously adds another layer of complexity to the already risky sport that is Mountain biking. Relying on lights limits the distance you...

Global Fat Bike Day 2016 – 03/12/2016

Stop holding your breath folks, it's that time again - Global Fat Bike Day 2016! #GFBD2016 The day where 0.0001% of riders who actually own fatbikes can stand up and shout about easily riding through sand (or that rare Queensland snow), brag about climbing loose rocky slopes with the unlimited traction and conveniently forgetting to mention things like rotational mass, chain rub, self-steer, expensive tyres, and weird-ass off-set spoke patterns. OK FINE!! Fatbikers do that every day but this is still our day so tough luck! So this year's ride will be over at Bribie Island. We start at the surf club and ride along the beach while the tide lets us then its BBQ and beers and a lovely ride back under the moonlight. Romantic eh? So if you got a fatbike or are fatbike curious (it's OK we don't spank our initiates) jump onto the Facebook page and have a look - https://www.facebook.com/events/161231834288047/ Michael "Is this sand we are riding on?" Pomona to Lake MacDonald Ride Summary 17/10/2016

Meeting up bright and early along Reserve St, Pomona, we set about prepping our bikes, catching up on what riding people have been doing in the past week, and welcoming Kelly-Anne and Lucy who tagged along for the ride.

At just past 7am we headed out along the railway before ducking under the tracks and heading into the Yurol forest. Heading north along the various forestry access roads we hopped across Yurol Forest Drive and snaked our way onto Kidd Road before jumping on and off Ringtail Creek Road, along Forest Acres Drive and then riding the single tracks north of Lake MacDonald.

Stopping off at Cod Park for a bit of rest and a photo op. The lake was looking pristine in the bright mid morning sun.

Continuing on along ‘Trail 4’ and Hamilton Road to Kennedys Road then back to Pomona through the Yurol Forest.

Finishing our ride at the Trail 518 cafe in Pomona and taking in a few coffees while talking about the great trail networks both locally and overseas. The 36km ride wasn’t enough for Kelly-Anne and Lucy so they set out along tail 5 to Cooran to do a bit of exploring within the beautiful Tuchekoi National Park that surrounds Mt Cooroora.

Thanks goes to Terry for leading the ride and picking a great route.

Parklands Ride Summary – 09/10/2016

Hello everyone, [caption id="attachment_1775" align="alignright" width="300"] Great turn-out![/caption] Sunday's Parklands ride had a great turn out with the regular Bushrangers, some new guys, some CORCA boys, the Crankworx Cyclery crew and Al the Rocky Mountain rep. Massive turn out! This ride was this month's "Invite a bike shop" ride and Daniel from Crankworx Cyclery came to say g'day, along with Al the local Rocky Mountain bike rep. They both brought along some nice demo bikes which John, Nick and Rod got to take around Parklands. We broke into two groups with the "gung-ho" group leaving first and the "not so gung-ho" leaving afterwards taking things a bit slower. Both groups following a clockwise route around the park so we all finished the ride with a descent down Ho-Chi-Ho. Ben and I lead the 2nd group and took them up Road Rage, then onto Terry's track, through Cancer Tree over to the east side of the park. This is where all my whinging about climbing trails finally paid off...

Sunshine Coast Bike Week – Mapleton Ride Summary – 02/10/2017

Sunday was our community ride at Mapleton which also tied in with the Sunshine Coast Bike Week so in addition to a big turn out of club members we also had a few guests along (30 riders in total). Warm welcome to Jackie, Jenny, Todd who came along with Ben, Al and myself on the "easier" ride and to the other new riders who went along with John on the advanced ride or the "Bushrangers mtb rock climbing adventure" as Toby described it in Strava. Also a big hello to Chris from Venture Cycles, Sorab from the Sunshine Coast Cycle Club and Wayne and Helen from CORCA, thanks for coming along and I hope you enjoyed yourselves. The not-so-advanced ride rode from Mapleton out to the Oaky Creek lookout then back again which was a 25km trip. The view at the lookout was particularly interesting that day due to the smoke nestling in the valleys. The advanced ride followed a more complex route with some exploratory diversions...

Sugarbag Ride Summary – 25/09/2016

[caption id="attachment_1666" align="alignright" width="300"] Click for more info[/caption] 14 riders showed up at the aquatic centre in Caloundra on Sunday morning. In addition to the regular crew we had a new rider, Sirrob, previous member Pete and Dean from Hit Bikes come along (Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hitbikes/). There was a particularly nasty magpie near the carpark who attacked Toby and Neil as they rode to meet us, it attacked Sirrob as he just stood there waiting and I think it even called me fat. We rode through Ben Bennett park and onto the Sugarbag trails. I was looking forward to checking out the new Syrup trail that Trailworx had worked on recently. Terry and Tania went off and did their own thing but the rest of us stuck together and we went through the regular trails like Sugar and Honeycomb and we did the new Syrup trail a few times too. Syrup is a bit loose on the berms at the moment but it's still pretty fun. After the trails Pete and Dean said...
